Positional-combinatorial conditions of quantitative vowel variation in the Turkic languages of Altai
This paper examines the quantitative variation in vocal components of bisyllabic words within the Altai Turkic languages, specifically Altai, Tuba, and Kumandin. Vowel length transformations are determined by phonetic context, specifically positional and combinatorial conditions, and the qualitative uniformity or heterogeneity of the lexeme vocal axis, rather than morphological structure or lexical semantics. Through a comprehensive interdiscipli…
Intonational means of expressing finality in Tuvan folklore narration
The present study is as a continuation of our previous work on Tuvan intonation, which was concerned with prosodic markers as means of structuring a folklore text. The purpose of this article is to examine the manifestation of intonational universals associated with the expression of completeness in Tuvan narrative utterances, which has not previously been subjected to a dedicated analysis employing corpus and statistical methods. The theoretical…
Intonation structuring of coherent Tuvan folklore narration
The article presents preliminary data on the intonation of the Tuvan folklore narration with specific focus to the relation between intonation and text structure. The analysis was carried out on the basis of four Tuvan folklore texts. Three hypothetical intonational correlates of the text structure were examined. First, we consider the difference in tempo of the main parts of the texts, following the idea of three-part structure of folklore texts…
