  • The Study of Practice in the Vehicles of Men and Gods and the Bodhisattva Vehicle

    Open Access•Chienhuang Chen, C F Chen•ARTICLE•Religions•2025•References: 1

This paper explores the perspectives of Master Taixu (太虛, 1890-1947) and Master Hsing Yun (星雲, 1927-2023) on the practice of the Buddhist Five Vehicles (五乘), particularly focusing on the relationship between the Vehicles of Men and Gods (人天乘) and the Bodhisattva Vehicle (菩薩乘). Master Taixu advocated "Buddhism for Human Life" (人生佛教), emphasizing the improvement of real life as the foundation for Buddhist practice in daily life. He proposed the pri…

  • A Stability Criterion Based on the Return Difference

    Open Access•C F Chen, N F Tsang•ARTICLE•IEEE Transactions on Education•1967

A simple stability criterion based on the return difference is established: Draw the phase plot of the return difference 1 + GH(jω) vs. ω, if and only if θ(∞)-∞(0) = (n + 2m) π/2, the system is stable, where n is the number of poles of GH(jω) at the origin and m is that in the right half plane; θ(∞) and θ(0) are the phase angles of "1 + GH(iω)" at ω = ∞ and at ∞ = 0, respectively

  • Generalization of Heaviside's Expansion Technique to Transition Matrix Evaluation

    Open Access•C F Chen, R R Parker•ARTICLE•IEEE Transactions on Education•1966

The well-known technique of the Heaviside partial fraction expansion is generalized and extended to the state transition matrix determination. The new approach is more convenient than the direct inversion of a square matrix, on one hand, and is much simpler than Sylvester's expansion method, on the other. Two examples (one is a system with distinct roots and one with multiple roots) are included for illustrating the procedures and showing the sim…

  • Transfer Function Synthesis in the Time Domain an Extension of Levy's Method

    Open Access•J B Kidd, T E Edgerton et al.•ARTICLE•IEEE Transactions on Education•1965

This paper attempts to extend Levy's method of the time domain. If the impulse response of a system is given and its transfer function is desired, we use gate functions to convert the transient response and then apply Levy's technique. The high accuracy of the results of the new approach is demonstrated by two examples. A detailed digital computer flow graph is appended

  • Constructing Liapunov Functions by Means of the Analog Computer

    Open Access•C F Chen, Earl F Richards et al.•ARTICLE•IEEE Transactions on Education•1964

Lur'e's method in constructing Liapunov functions is well known. For a higher order feedback system, however, the last steps of his process is not very practical. This paper attempts to offer a method for solving the nonlinear algebraic equations by using the analog computer instead of finding the sufficient conditions. Thus a Liapunov function can be constructed which is not easily obtained by his original technique
