  • Charting the path after 2030

Elizabeth Buckner, Tristan Mccowan et al.•ARTICLE•Compare A Journal of Comparative…•2025•Referências: 13

As 2030 approaches, it is clear the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will fall short of their ambitious targets, raising questions about the future of the global development agenda. The current moment presents an opportunity for reconsidering the role of higher education in charting that future. In this Forum, we contribute to growing debates on the SDGs’ future and examine how universities might shape what comes next. We invited scholars to …

  • Surviving the cities

Fatima Eshun, Frank Denton et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2024

It has been estimated that cities harbour most of the urban poor who usually reside in slum areas and experience deplorable environmental conditions. To survive the city, it is crucial to enhance the asset adaptation strategies of the urban poor. However, studies on assets enhancement focus on a few aspects of assets whilst a detailed approach to assets enhancement such as human, physical, social, financial, and natural remain under research. To …

  • The multifaceted socio-ecological impacts of charcoal production on the Afram Plains, Ghana

Open Access•Thelma Arko, Adelina Mensah et al.•ARTICLE•Trees Forests and People•2024

This study investigates the environmental impacts of charcoal production in the Afram Plains region of Ghana, a forest-savannah transition ecosystem. Through a combination of remote sensing analysis, field surveys, and incorporation of local ecological knowledge, the research examines the extent of devegetation, depletion of tree species, and ecosystem degradation associated with charcoal production activities. The findings reveal the extensive s…

  • The charcoal footprint of greater Accra on the Afram Plains

Open Access•Thelma Arko, Adelina Mensah et al.•ARTICLE•Trees Forests and People•2024

Rapid urbanisation in sub-Saharan Africa is leading to increased energy consumption and a growing reliance on charcoal as a fuel source, with significant environmental implications. This study examines the impact of charcoal consumption in Greater Accra, Ghana, on the Afram Plains ecosystem. Employing a mixed-methods approach, including geographical analysis, quantitative data collection, and sustainability assessment, we evaluate the charcoal fo…

  • Ipcc, 2023

Katherine Calvin, Dipak Dasgupta et al.•REPORT•IPCC, 2023: Climate Change 2023:…•2023

The Summary for Policymakers (SPM) of the Synthesis Report (SYR) of the Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), is a component of the SYR which provides a policy-relevant but policy-neutral summary of the SYR. It is consistent with the Sections of the SYR and is approved line by line by the Governments at a plenary session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

  • Institutional roles in enhancing assets adaptation of urban poor

    Open Access•Fatima Eshun, Frank Denton•ARTICLE•Urban Governance•2022•Citada por: 1•Referências: 7

Population growth has increased the number of informal settlements and unplanned structures within the urban areas. Most often, the urban poor suffer since they are found within urban slums with poor facilities. Even though government institutions are expected to develop assets within the urban areas, other institutions such as the Civil Society Organizations, Faith-Based Organizations, and traditional authorities can play certain roles to comple…

  • Family Structure, Materialism, and Compulsive Consumption

Aric Rindfleisch, James E Burroughs et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Consumer Research•1997•Citada por: 44

Despite the rapid and dramatic changes in the structure of the American family over the past thirty years (e.g., divorce, single parenting), consumer researchers have largely neglected the issue of how alternative family forms influence consumer behavior. The authors' initial inquiry into this area finds that young adults reared in disrupted families are more materialistic and exhibit higher levels of compulsive consumption than young adults rear…

  • The Matrix of Policy in the Philippines

Harvey A Averch, Frank H Denton et al.•BOOK•Matrix of Policy in the Philippines•1971•Citada por: 6

Survey of findings on the social, political, and economic state of the Philippine nation. Analysis indicates that among the less-developed countries, the Philippines is not a nation in a general massive social crisis. Classical metaphors about the polity and economy of less-developed countries are misleading when applied to the Philippine experience

  • A Crisis of Ambiguity

Harvey A Averch, Harvey Averch et al.•BOOK•1970•Citada por: 4

This report contains the findings of an interdisciplinary study of the social, political, and economic state of the Philippine nation. It covers interactions among political perceptions, voting behavior, and economic growth, as well as the problems of crime and dissidence. Survey data and aggregate data are applied jointly to all of these subject areas. The aim is twofold: to provide as comprehensive and detailed a portrait as possible of the Phi…
