  • Factors Related to Positive Memory Count Among Trauma-Exposed Individuals: A Scoping Review

    Open Access•Ateka A Contractor, Stephanie V Caldas et al.•ARTICLE•Trauma Violence & Abuse•2022

To examine the existing knowledge base on trauma experiences and positive memories, we conducted a scoping review of trauma and post-trauma factors related to positive memory count. In July 2019, we searched PubMed, Medline, PsycINFO, Web of Science, Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Embase, and PTSDpubs for a combination of words related to “positive memories/experiences,” “trauma/posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD),” an…

  • The relationship between number of trauma types, resilience, and psychological symptoms in ex-military personnel from India

Open Access•Megan Dolan, Ling Jin et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2022

Study results enhance an understanding of psychological difficulties faced by Indian ex-military members who have experienced multiple TE types, which can inform psychotherapeutic treatments for this population. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2022 APA, all rights reserved)

  • Examining relationships between posttraumatic stress disorder severity and types of media/technology usage

Jade Binford, Megan Dolan et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2022

Study findings suggest that the extent of MTU behaviors (especially extent of TV use, media sharing, and online friendships) are important to examine in trauma-exposed individuals with PTSD symptoms. Results generalize to trauma-exposed community members and are considered within the context of current MTU theories. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved)

  • Age-dependent associations among insomnia, depression, and inflammation in nurses

    Jamie Walker, Jamie L Walker et al.•ARTICLE•Psychology & Health•2021

Objective Insomnia and depression have been inconsistently associated with inflammation. Age may be one important moderator of these associations. This study examined associations between insomnia and depression with inflammatory biomarkers in nurses and how these associations varied by age. Design: Participants were 392 nurses ages 18-65 (Mage = 39.54 years ± 11.15, 92% female) recruited from two hospitals. Main outcome measures: Participants co…

  • Trauma, posttraumatic stress disorder severity, and positive memories

Megan Dolan, Ateka A Contractor et al.•ARTICLE•Memory•2020

Positive memories play an important role in the aetiology and maintenance of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, most trauma research/clinical work has focused solely on the role of traumatic memories. Thus, we examined the relationship between count of retrieved positive memories and PTSD severity, factors associated with count of retrieved positive memories (i.e., rumination, negative/positive emotion dysregulation, fear of positive …

  • Does children’s visual attention to specific objects affect their verb learning

    Open Access•Jane B Childers, Blaire M Porter et al.•ARTICLE•First Language•2020

To learn a verb, children must attend to objects and relations, often within a dynamic scene. Several studies show that comparing varied events linked to a verb helps children learn verbs, but there is also controversy in this area. This study asks whether children benefit from seeing variation across events as they learn a new verb, and uses an eye tracker to test whether children adjust their visual attention to specific objects to better under…
