  • The "why and how" of marine functional connectivity for sustainable development

Audrey M Darnaude, Katell Guizien et al.•PREPRINT•2025

Marine Functional Connectivity (MFC) is a dynamic ecosystem process encompassing all the flows (of individuals, genes, matter and energy) driven by changes in the distribution and movement of marine organisms at sea and across the land-sea-air interface. Continuing advances in MFC understanding enhance our ability to evaluate the status, trends, and variability in marine species abundance, the drivers of change, and the role of marine species mov…

  • Mental health in Californian Jews before and after October 7, 2023

Leah C Hibel, Marika Sigal et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2025

Jewish participants exhibited significant increases in depression and anxiety following the October 7, 2023, attack. Changes in mental health were uniquely predicted by both the timing of the assessment (pre/post October 7) and concerns about antisemitism. Findings suggest the necessity of additional mental health services to address the needs of Jewish communities. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2025 APA, all rights reserved)

  • Poor online information on European marine protected areas impairs public participation under the Aarhus Convention

Open Access•Valentina Rossi, Carlo Pipitone et al.•ARTICLE•Marine Policy•2024

The Aarhus Convention is a globally recognised benchmark for democratic environmental governance . However, no assessment exists on whether European MPAs comply with the legal standards set out by the Convention. Here, we focus on public authorities’ websites on MPAs as tools for promoting transparency, public involvement, and democratic processes . We assessed the websites of 61 European MPAs in thirteen countries using a survey structured by th…

  • Peace and conflict in Israeli state-approved textbooks

    Open Access•Yael Teff‐Seker, Yael Teff-Seker•ARTICLE•Journal of Curriculum Studies•2020

The current article describes the peace and conflict educational approaches found in the Jewish-Israeli curricula between the years 2000–2017. Using thematic analysis, it extracts the dominant themes and messages towards Muslim, Arab and Palestinian ‘others’. The study follows 123 textbooks recommended by the Israeli Ministry of Education for grades 7 through 12 of the Jewish state and state-religious sectors for the 2000–2019 academic years. The…

  • Project-Based Learning in Education for Sustainable Development

Yael Teff‐Seker, Yael Teff-Seker et al.•ARTICLE•Case Studies in the Environment•2019

Urban planning can serve a vital role in meeting the goals of education for sustainable development (ESD); it could potentially provide future planners with the environmental considerations necessary to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. This article presents findings from a quantitative study of planning students’ experiences with Project- and Problem-Based Learning (PPBL…

  • Israel’s ‘turn to the sea’ and its effect on Israeli regional policy

    Yael Teff‐Seker, Yael Teff-Seker et al.•ARTICLE•Israel Affairs•2019•Cited by: 1•References: 4

The article analyses the effect of Israel’s new maritime orientation on its foreign policy. It first demonstrates that in the last two decades Israel has changed its maritime posture in three important ways: it has developed energy dependence on offshore gas, begun extensive seawater desalination and dramatically expanded its navy’s platforms and missions. The paper then investigates the effects of these changes on Israel’s bilateral relations wi…

  • Israel Turns to the Sea

    Yael Teff‐Seker, Yael Teff-Seker et al.•ARTICLE•The Middle East Journal•2018•Cited by: 3•References: 3

Since the mid-1990s, both the Israeli state and Israeli society have been developing and implementing several separate new policies regarding the country’s seas. These include the extraction of offshore hydrocarbons; expansion of the navy; massive desalination projects; and several legislative, planning, and zoning initiatives. Put together, these changes amount to a “turn to the sea” that profoundly affects Israel’s economy, foreign policy, and …

  • Community-level environmental projects as learning tools for planners

    Michelle E Portman, Michelle Ε Portman et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Education Research•2016•Cited by: 1•References: 10

Despite the potential environmental impact of urban planning, there is little research on Environmental Education (EE) in the context of urban planning curricula. This study follows graduate planning students’ learning experience during group projects assigned as part of a planning course at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. These participatory projects, characterized as project-based learning and service learning, took place in seve…
