  • The Impact of Temporal Distance on Online Ratings

Open Access•Zi-Han Wei, Zihan Wei et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Hospitality & Tourism…•2026

We investigate a novel bias in online rating systems, “memory bias,” arising from the temporal gap between consumption and review publication. Through an analysis of 753,806 hotel reviews and a randomized experiment, we find: (1) Memory bias has a greater spillover effect on perceived performance than on expectations, boosting ratings. (2) The marginal influence of memory bias on online reviews demonstrates a U-shaped relationship with time. (3) …

  • Use of machine learning models to predict mortality in dialysis patients

Open Access•Junmin Huang, Lu Chen et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Background: Mortality among maintenance hemodialysis patients remains high, and traditional statistical models often fail to capture complex clinical relationships. This study aimed to systematically develop, compare, and validate 19 machine learning algorithms for predicting all-cause mortality in maintenance hemodialysis patients. Methods: This retrospective study included data from 538 maintenance hemodialysis patients (2018.1-2023.12), with 7…

  • Microblog discourse analysis for parenting style assessment

Given the widespread use of social media, microblogs offer a new and promising way for non-invasive, large-scale assessment of parenting styles of students' parents. Methods: In this study, we have two main objectives: (1) investigating the correlation between students' microblog discourses and parents' parenting st…

  • Understanding the effect of tourists’ attribute-level experiences on satisfaction – a cross-cultural study leveraging deep learning

Zihan Wei, Mingli Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Current Issues in Tourism•2023

This study investigates how cultural traits play a role regarding the effect of attribute-level experiences on tourist satisfaction. Adopting Deep Learning algorithm, we proposed Attribute-Level Sentiment Analysis Model (ASAM) to extract tourists’ attribute-level experiences from online reviews. Then, based on nearly 50000 online reviews collect from TripAdvisor, we empirically find that positive attribute-level experiences exert the greater infl…
