  • Access to Low-Taxed Cigarettes Deters Smoking Cessation Attempts

Andrew Hyland, Cheryl Higbee et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2005•Cited by: 3•References: 5

We examined whether smokers who purchased low-taxed cigarettes from American Indian reservations had lower quit attempt and cessation rates than did smokers who purchased cigarettes from full-price outlets. Smokers who bought cigarettes from American Indian reservations were half as likely to make a quit attempt and had a nonsignificant trend toward lower cessation rates (20% vs 10%) compared with those who bought full-priced cigarettes. • Prince among Slaves

Boubacar Barry, Charlotte Quinn et al.•ARTICLE•African Studies Review•1981•Cited by: 2

In 1807, an Irish ship's surgeon recognized a slave at a Mississippi produce market as the son of an African king who had saved his life many years earlier. The Prince, as he had become known to local Natchez, Mississippi, residents, had been captured by warring tribesmen when he was 26 years old, sold to slavetraders, and shipped to America. An educated, aristocratic slave, Abd Rahman Ibrahima was made overseer of the large cotton and tobacco pl…
