Bladder and Bowel Management in Adolescents and Young Adults with Multiple Sclerosis Since Childhood
Bowel dysfunction constitutes an underrecognized but clinically significant manifestation in pediatric MS. Its early identification and adherence to a structured bowel management program seems to be crucial for optimizing symptom control and preserving quality of life. Standardized questionnaires represent effective, non-invasive tools for assessment and longitudinal monitoring
Evaluating the Global Intensive Feeding Therapy (Gift) for Children with CHARGE Syndrome
These preliminary results suggest that GIFT may be an effective rehabilitation program for addressing feeding and swallowing disorders in children with CS. Further studies with larger sample sizes and controlled designs are warranted to substantiate these findings and refine the intervention protocol
Child Amputee Prosthetics Project—Prosthesis Satisfaction Inventory (Capp-PSI)
Background: The Child Amputee Prosthetics Project-Prosthesis Satisfaction Inventory (CAPP-PSI) is a comprehensive instrument designed to measure satisfaction across functionality, aesthetic, and service domains. This study aimed to translate, culturally adapt, and evaluate the psychometric properties of the CAPP-PSI in an Italian pediatric population. Methods : Following international guidelines, the CAPP-PSI was translated and culturally adapted…
Reliability and Construct Validity of the Communication Function Classification System (CFCS) in an Italian Population of Children with Cerebral Palsy
Background/objectives: Communication difficulties are highly prevalent among children with cerebral palsy (CP) and have a significant impact on participation, psychosocial development, and quality of life. The Communication Function Classification System (CFCS) was developed to provide a standardized framework for describing functional communication performance across five ordinal levels. While the CFCS has been validated internationally, evidenc…
The Use of Abilhand-Kids in Children with Unilateral Congenital Below-Elbow Deficiencies and Acquired Amputation
Congenital or acquired hand differences, including unilateral below-elbow deficiencies, present complex challenges in pediatric rehabilitation. Surgical management and prosthetic provision represent a big challenge to find a good balance for guaranteeing optimal hand function. There is no specific assessment tool for measuring these aspects in the Italian context. The present study investigates the psychometric properties of the ABILHAND-Kids in …
Assessment and Rehabilitation Intervention of Feeding and Swallowing Skills in Children with Down Syndrome Using the Global Intensive Feeding Therapy (Gift)
GIFT proved to be effective in the rehabilitation of feeding and swallowing disorders in children with DS, as well as for food acceptance
Lower Urinary Tract Dysfunction in Pediatric Patients with Multiple Sclerosis
The MS diagnosis was traumatic for all our patients. We believe it is important to address urological care in young people from the time of diagnosis for prompt management; it could be useful to include a pediatric urologist in multidisciplinary teams
Bladder and Bowel Dysfunction Rehabilitation in Children with Acquired Brain Injury
Objective: To evaluate neurogenic bladder and bowel dysfunction (NBBD) in children with cerebral palsy (CP) and acquired brain injury (ABI), a condition considered less frequent in those patients than in children with spinal cord injury (SCI), and to study the relationship between NBBD and disability grade in this population. Study Design: We retrospectively reviewed the clinical data of all patients (aged 3-18 years old) admitted during a three-…
Development and Pilot Study of a Pediatric Screening for Feeding and Swallowing Disorders in Infants and Children
Feeding and swallowing disorders (FSD) are common during childhood, with a prevalence of 85% in children with neurodevelopmental disorders. A comprehensive screening is essential to identify FSD and improve health outcomes in a clinical setting. This study aims to develop a new Pediatric Screening tool capable of identifying FSD. This screening tool was developed in three steps: selecting variables based on clinical experience, searching the lite…
The Efficacy of the Global Intensive Feeding Therapy on Feeding and Swallowing Abilities in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder
The present investigation aims to explore the efficacy of Global Intensive Feeding Therapy (GIFT) on feeding and swallowing abilities in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). GIFT was developed as an intensive rehabilitation approach, divided into 30 sessions for 2 weeks, three times a day. GIFT focused on (a) encouraging desensitization; (b) widening the food repertoire (in terms of both variety and quantity); (c) reducing inappropriate …
