Multidrug-Resistant Bacterial Infections in Pediatric Patients Hospitalized at King Abdulaziz University Hospital, Jeddah, Western Saudi Arabia
Multidrug-resistant bacterial infections (MDRIs) constitute a major global threat due to increased patient morbidity/mortality and hospital stay/healthcare costs. A few studies from KSA, including our locality, addressed antimicrobial resistance in pediatric patients. This study was performed to recognize the incidence and clinical/microbiologic features of MDRIs in hospitalized pediatric patients. A retrospective cross-sectional study included p…
Effect of Helicobacter pylori Eradication on Serum Level of Valproic Acid in Children with Idiopathic Generalized Epilepsy
The eradication of H. pylori resulted in a highly significant improvement in the serum level of the orally given VPA in children with idiopathic generalized epilepsy, as well as an indirect decrease in the frequency of epileptic events per month, allowing for dose reduction. Eradication therapy may have anticonvulsant properties and might indirectly aid in the management of epileptic activity. H. pylori screening for children with idiopathic gene…
Prevalence, Risk Factors and Antibiotic Resistance of Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamase-Producing Escherichia coli in Children Hospitalized with Urinary Tract Infection at King Abdulaziz University Hos…
Background/Objectives: We aimed to assess the prevalence and risk factors for acquisition of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Escherichia coli (E. coli) in children admitted with urinary tract infection (UTI) at a tertiary university hospital in Saudi Arabia, as well as to investigate antibiotic resistance patterns. Methods: This retrospective cross-sectional study involved hospitalized children aged 0–14 years from January 2018 …
Neurological Manifestations in Pediatric Covid-19 Patients Hospitalized at King Abdulaziz University Hospital, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
There are limited data about neurological manifestations in pediatric COVID-19 patients from all over the world, including Saudi Arabia. This study was performed to identify characteristics of pediatric COVID-19 cases with neurologic involvement hospitalized at King Abdulaziz University Hospital (KAUH), Saudi Arabia. This retrospective cross-sectional study included hospitalized patients aged 0-19 years with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 from April 2020 t…
