Hematologic Inflammatory Indices Predict Mortality in Surgical Necrotizing Enterocolitis Among Premature Infants
Background/Objectives : Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is one of the most devastating gastrointestinal emergencies in premature neonates, with particularly high mortality among those requiring surgical intervention. Early identification of high-risk patients remains challenging. This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of complete blood count-derived inflammatory indices for predicting mortality in premature infants undergoing surgery f…
Neurodevelopmental Outcomes in Newborns with Congenital Gastrointestinal Atresias
Patients with congenital gastrointestinal malformations are reported in the literature to have lower motor and language development scores. In our study, lower cognitive and language scores were observed in only one patient, whereas motor delay was more prevalent in the study population. The close neurodevelopmental follow-up of infants with gastrointestinal atresies may improve the quality of life
Diagnostic Accuracy of a Machine Learning-Derived Appendicitis Score in Children
Background : Accurate diagnosis of acute appendicitis in children remains challenging due to variable presentations and limitations of existing clinical scoring systems. While machine learning (ML) offers a promising approach to enhance diagnostic precision, most prior studies have been limited by small sample sizes, single-center data, or a lack of external validation. Methods : This prospective, multicenter study included 8586 pediatric patient…
