Organizers' irregular behavior and marathon participation
This study examines how irregular behavior by marathon organizers impacts participants' willingness to participate and identifies effective mitigation strategies. A mixed-methods approach was used: Study 1 employed grounded theory and survey data (N = 808) to develop and validate a scale assessing such behaviors; Study 2 conducted an experiment (N = 180) to test corrective actions. Self-Compassion and Life Satisfaction in Gay Men
Studies have shown that gay men are at increased risk for anxiety and depression due to social oppression; research suggests that self-compassion is positively associated with life-satisfaction and emotional resilience. Bereaved Mothers Navigating the Impact of Their Loss
Nineteen mothers whose children had died were interviewed to examine their bereavement and how they were coping with the loss of their children. The data collected revealed that the mothers were traumatized by the deaths of their children. Each bereaved mother reported that her world was not the same again. In the beginning they felt totally crushed. Some of the mothers had suicidal ideation. With the passing of time, their grief—which had once s…

Religion is a conduit for expressing spirituality. Homeless Hispanic and Non-Hispanic Adults on the Texas-Mexico Border
This article contrasts the demographics, familial relationships, vocational backgrounds, and personal experiences of homeless Hispanic adults with non-Hispanic adults living in the southwest border region of the United States. The sample consisted of 87 respondents recruited from Columbus, Ohio, in 1996 who worked in noncompetitive employment. Singapore Social Work Students
Using the Sanders, Montgomery, Pittman and Balkwell (1984) instrument, this study found that the attitudes of a sample of undergraduate Singaporean students (n = 201) toward older adults were in the neutral range. A small minority (5.6%) was planning a career in gerontology. Comparisons of the findings were made with an American sample. Implications for social work education and future research were discussed
