Affiliate stigma in autistic and non-autistic parents of autistic children and the association with traumatic stress symptomatology
This study investigated the experience of affiliate stigma among autistic and non-autistic parents of autistic children in Denmark. The results showed a significant association between traumatic stress symptom severity and parent affiliate stigma whereby the more severe the traumatic stress symptoms experienced by a parent, the more affiliate stigma they experienced. The present study indicates that parents of autistic children may be particularl…
The prevalence of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and complex PTSD among parents of autistic children in Denmark and Australia
Parents of autistic children in Denmark and Australia exhibit significantly higher rates of parenting-related PTSD and CPTSD compared to neurotypical parents, with strong diagnostic concordance across systems. Further research is needed to identify trauma-related outcomes in this population and clarify contributing risk and protective factors. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2025 APA, all rights reserved)
Contribution of narrative identity and future autobiographical memories integration in the self on meaning and purpose in children
Anhedonia, apathy and a motivation are common experiences among young people. These variables are central symptoms of mental disorders, particularly in depression. Purpose in life has been shown to counteract depressive symptomatology, but this has hardly been studied in children. The construction of personal identity and episodic future thoughts are important variables in defining those purposes. Therefore, the present study investigates how all…
Specificity and detail in autobiographical memory retrieval
This investigation examined conflicting suggestions regarding the association between problems retrieving specific autobiographical memories and the tendency to retrieve the details of these memories. We also examined whether these tendencies are differentially related to depression symptoms. U.S., Belgian, Hong Kong and Japanese participants retrieved memories related to cue words. Responses were coded for if they referred to a specific event (i…
Sext Dissemination
Sext dissemination presents policy and legislative challenges given its potential psychological, social, and legal harms. We report on a cross-national comparison of sext-image dissemination in a large sample of 1148 young adults aged 18-29 years (M = 22.54, SD = 2.50, 53.0% women, 47.0% men), either U.S. (53.8%) or Australian (46.2%) residents. The results indicate that 14% of young adults disseminated sexts, with no difference by gender or coun…

Sexting and Psychological Distress
Sexting (e.g., conveying nude electronic images) is now common among young adults. Despite leading to negative consequences for some (e.g., harassment and unwanted dissemination), findings regarding sexting behaviors and mental health variables have been mixed. We recruited a convenience sample of young adults (N = 444, M age = 20, SD = 1) to test the hypothesis that sexting might be associated with poorer mental health. Our results showed no ass…

Promoting fit bodies, healthy eating and physical activity among Indigenous Australian men
This study will explore both risk and protective factors that affect the health of Indigenous Australian men. This knowledge will be disseminated to the wider Indigenous community and can be used to inform future health promotion strategies. The expected outcome of this study is therefore an increased understanding of health and health change in Indigenous Australian men, the development of strategies that promote healthy eating and positive patt…
