    Ibrahim Mouiche•ARTICLE•Autrepart•2013

This study focuses on the hegemonic struggles between two ethnic communities, the Mbo and the Bamiléké, in Santchou, West Cameroon. At issue is the sharing of political roles in this locality, which point to issues of political representation. In this district, these roles (mayor, representative, etc.) were under the single party rule of the ethnic minority Mbo, who are a majority in this area but a minority in the rest of the district, where the…

    Open Access•Ibrahim Mouiche•ARTICLE•Africa Spectrum•2011•Cited by: 12•References: 15

Over the last two decades, the Mbororo - a 'marginal' ethnic group - have experienced some unexpected rewards due to a new policy in Cameroon's West Region. Among the changes that affected the Mbororo were the following: a new legal-institutional framework (the 1996 Constitution), the consequences of the multi-party competition since 1990, and the mobilisation outside of political parties in the framework of an association for the promotion of et…

  • Islam, Mondialisation Et Crise Identitaire Dans Le Royaume Bamoun, Cameroun

    Open Access•Ibrahim Mouiche•ARTICLE•Africa•2005•Cited by: 1•References: 13

This article concerns the effects of globalization on Islam in the Bamum kingdom, Cameroon. Since its introduction into the kingdom at the beginning of the nineteenth century, Islam has been closely intertwined with ethnicity and the local political system has been consensual. Politically, Bamum royalty - as the secular arm of central power - has had the unconditional support of Islam. For a long period, 'Bamum Islam', with its origins in the Tij…
