Phytoremediation Potential of Cynodon dactylon and Cenchrus ciliaris for Nickel‐Contaminated Soils
Increasing exposure of trace metals causes deleterious effects in plants and land fertility; therefore, appropriate monitoring and remediation strategies are crucial to protect the environment. Salt‐tolerant native plants such as Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers. and Cenchrus ciliaris L. can exhibit optimum resistance against excessive nickel levels, but their physiology remains under‐investigated. In this study, three ecotypes of both species (i.e., S…
Every Cloud Has a Silver Lining
Using firm‐level data, this paper shows that the Portuguese financial crisis was a period of intensified productivity‐enhancing reallocation. Aggregate productivity gains, both in manufacturing and services, came from relatively higher contributions of entering and exiting firms and from reallocation of resources between surviving firms. At the micro level, the crisis reduced the probability of survival for high‐ and low‐productivity firms, but i…
Price Changes in the Euro Area and the United States
Prices of goods and services do not adjust immediately in response to changing demand and supply conditions. This paper characterizes the average frequency and size of price changes in the euro area and its member countries, investigates the determinants of the probability of price changes, and compares the evidence for the euro area with available U.S. results. The facts documented in this paper are based on evidence from individual price data r…
