  • Similar minds in the family

    Open Access•Asuman Buyukcan‐tetik, Cemil Aydin et al.•ARTICLE•Personal Relationships•2023

We examined whether perceived similarity in COVID‐19 centrality (i.e., the extent to which one thinks of the pandemic as shaping current and future life) is associated with family relationship quality during the pandemic. Thinking that other family members are similar to oneself regarding the pandemic's centrality may improve the quality of family relationships. We collected data from Turkish family triads (i.e., mother, father, 18–25 years old c…

  • Changes in late adolescents’ trust before and during the Covid-19 pandemic

    Open Access•Shuang Bi, Asuman Buyukcan‐tetik et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Trust is crucial to the public’s compliance with policies and rules released by governments, particularly in times of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. However, it remains unclear whether and to what extent late adolescents’ interpersonal and institutional trust fluctuated from the pre-COVID-19 pandemic to the lasting phase of the COVID-19 pandemic. The present study uses three-wave longitudinal data from the Youth Got Talent (YGT…

  • Marriage as a training ground

    Open Access•Tila M Pronk, Asuman Buyukcan‐tetik et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social and Personal…•2019•Cited by: 7•References: 78

Do partners' levels of self-control and forgiveness change over the course of marriage? Based on the idea that marriage may function as a training ground for these vital relationship abilities, we hypothesized that people increase their levels of self-control and forgiveness over time and that these developments take place simultaneously. We tested these predictions among 199 newlywed couples in the first 4 years of marriage, using a dyadic laten…

  • Stability and Change in Self-Esteem During the Transition to Parenthood

    Open Access•Wiebke Bleidorn, Asuman Buyukcan‐tetik et al.•ARTICLE•Social Psychological and…•2016

The present longitudinal study used data from 187 newlywed couples to examine the impact of the birth of the first child on self-esteem over the course of the first 5 years of marriage. Results suggest that the birth of the first child is associated with changes in parents’ (especially mothers’) self-esteem. For the average parent, these changes were negative with sudden declines in self-esteem in the year after childbirth and continuing gradual …

In this paper, we investigate whether and to what extent exposure to a company's social media activities over time is beneficial for corporate reputation, and whether conversational human voice mediates this relation. In a two-wave longitudinal survey among 1969 respondents, we assessed consumers' exposure to an international airline's social media activities, perceived level of conversational human voice and perception of corporate reputation. • Social Relations Model Analyses of Perceived Self-Control and Trust in Families

Open Access•Asuman Buyukcan‐tetik, Catrin Finkenauer et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Marriage and the Family•2015•Cited by: 3•References: 60

How do people know which family member is trustworthy? In this study, the authors tested the hypothesis that people use their perception of a family member's self-control as an indicator of his or her trustworthiness. Eighty-four Dutch families consisting of 2 parents and 2 children completed questionnaires assessing each family member's trust in and perceived self-control of the other 3 family members. This full-family design enabled the authors…
