  • The determinants of handwashing in humanitarian crisis setting during the Covid-19 pandemic

Open Access•Jenny Lamb, Astrid Hasund Thorseth et al.•ARTICLE•Health Promotion International•2024

The Wash’Em process was developed to improve the design of handwashing behaviour change programmes during outbreaks and humanitarian crises. It aims to rapidly create evidence-based, contextualized handwashing programmes. Wash’Em was widely used during the COVID-19 pandemic. This multi-country secondary data analysis compares data emerging from Wash’Em during the pandemic, to understand whether commonalities in programming constraints or the dete…

  • Associations between Shared Sanitation, Stunting and Diarrhoea in Low-Income, High Density Urban Neighbourhoods of Maputo, Mozambique - a Cross-Sectional Study

Open Access•Laura Braun, Arlene Macdougall et al.•ARTICLE•Maternal and Child Health Journal•2024

Use of an improved shared latrine is associated with decreased odds of stunting. There is no evidence of an association between latrine improvement and diarrhoea. Further investigation is necessary to isolate attributes of shared sanitation facilities that may reduce health risks

  • Impaired in life

Open Access•Gojjam Limenih, Arlene Macdougall et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Social…•2024•Referências: 8

Background: Depression is a global crisis and a major concern in mental health interventions, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), where it significantly impacts disability, quality of life, and economic stability. These chronic stressors have been used to argue for scaling up the detection and treatment of depression as a public health and development priority. Aim: This study aimed to explore illness narratives of depressio…

  • A cluster-randomised controlled equivalence trial of the Surprise Soap handwashing intervention among older children living in a refugee settlement in Sudan

Open Access•Julie Watson, Ibtihal Mohammed-Elhassan Osman et al.•ARTICLE•BMJ Global Health•2023

INTRODUCTION: Increasing handwashing with soap (HWWS) among older children in emergency settings can have a large public health impact, however, evidence on what works is limited. One promising approach is the 'Surprise Soap' intervention in which a novel soap with an embedded toy is delivered to children in a short, participatory household session that includes a glitter game and HWWS practice. Here, we evaluate this intervention against a stand…

  • High consumption of unhealthy commercial foods and beverages tracks across the complementary feeding period in rural/peri‐urban Cambodia

Open Access•Guy‐Marino Hinnouho, Elaine L Ferguson et al.•ARTICLE•Maternal and Child Nutrition•2023

Consumption of unhealthy commercial foods and beverages (UCFB) is common among infants and young children living in low- and middle-income countries. Such foods can displace other nutritious foods, however, there is limited evidence on how this consumption tracks across time. This study assessed and tracked UCFB consumption of children living in rural/peri-urban Cambodia during the complementary feeding period, identified UCFB consumption pattern…

  • Covid-19-related anxiety and the role of social media among Canadian youth

Open Access•Soyeon Kim, Kimberly D Belfry et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2023

Our findings suggest that COVID-19-related anxiety is associated with youth engagement in social media during the COVID-19 pandemic. Clinicians, parents, and educators should work collaboratively to provide developmentally appropriate approaches to reduce the negative social media impact on COVID-19-related anxiety and promote/foster resiliency in our community during the recovery period

  • Exploration of Existing Integrated Mental Health and Addictions Care Services for Indigenous Peoples in Canada

Open Access•Jasmine Wu, Victoria Smye et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2023

Due to the persistent impacts of colonialism, Indigenous peoples of Canada face disproportionate rates of mental health and substance use disorders, which are often insufficiently addressed by Eurocentric 'mainstream' mental health and addiction services. The need to better address Indigenous mental health has led to Indigenous mental health integrated care (hereafter integrated care): programs using both Indigenous and Western practices in their…
