    Denis R Janz, Denis Janz•ARTICLE•Sixteenth Century Journal•1977

  • Reform and Authority in the Medieval and Reformation Church

Guy Fitch Lytle, Denis R Janz et al.•ARTICLE•Renaissance and Reformation•1969

This book is a collection of eight essays that originated in the Medieval Seminar of the Catholic University of America in the mid-1970' s .The justification for collecting these essays in a book, according to the editor, is their common theme: the interrela- tions of reform and authority from the 1 1th to the 16th centuries

  • Cajetan

    Denis R Janz, Denis Janz•ARTICLE•Renaissance and Reformation•1969

Xo the humanists of the sixteenth century as well as to Luther, the phrase "Thomist Reformer" in the title of this paper would have seemed like a contradiction in terms. The prevailing image of the Thomist in the Reformation era was that of the reactionary attempting vainly to stem the tide of change by returning to the centuries-old teaching of Thomas Aquinas. This prevailing image, which persists even today, is perhaps partially justifiable
