  • Race-reimaged autonomy support

Open Access•Jeanette Zambrano, Erika A Patall et al.•ARTICLE•Contemporary Educational Psychology•2026

Although self-determination theory (SDT) and culturally relevant and responsive education (CRRE) each offer valuable insights for supporting student motivation, they have rarely been integrated. This study introduces and validates a measure of the Race-Reimaged Autonomy-Supportive Instruction (RR-ASI) framework, which reimages core SDT practices through a culturally grounded, justice-oriented lens. Across three studies, we validated the RR-ASI fr…

Linguistic inquiry and word count (LIWC) analyses revealed that professors who used more communal language—including third person plural pronouns (e.g., we), social words (e.g., discussion), and positive emotion words …

  • From threat to essentially sacrificial

    Open Access•Diane J Lee, Jing Wang•ARTICLE•Mobilities•2024•Cited by: 2•References: 29

As Covid-19 spread quickly, New York City (NYC) designated food delivery as essential and stopped policing the electric bikes ridden by ‘threatening’ delivery workers. We use racial capitalism to examine how becoming essential reconfigured the labor mobilities of NYC food delivery workers to maintain and create accumulations of racial capitalism in a crisis of pandemic-induced (im)mobilities. This research draws from pre-pandemic and during-pande…

  • Teacher support for students’ psychological needs and student engagement

  • Embodied bicycle commuters in a car world

    Diane J Lee, Do Jun Lee•ARTICLE•Social & Cultural Geography•2016•Cited by: 14•References: 60

As an initiative to increase cycling, bike to work (BTW) events emphasize a pragmatic approach in which people learn through sensory experience. Pragmatism contends that the lived experience of the commuter within fluid geographies of social and physical conditions informs commuting knowledge and behavior. I researched how bicyclists participate in the 2012 BTW event in Lake Tahoe (USA) and how these experiences facilitate the process of becoming…
