  • Love, longing and obsession

    Open Access•Chloe Evans, Sian O Panton et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica•2026

Limerence is an intense, chronic, and involuntary state of unreciprocated obsessive relational longing for a specific individual (the limerent object, LO). Limerence exists on a continuum, but research on its pathological form ('impairing limerence') has been limited. This paper presents two studies that advance understanding of impairing limerence. Study 1 is the largest quantitative investigation of limerence to date (N = 1647) and charts core …

  • Deprivation and well-being in squalid living

Open Access•Mike Norton, Stephen Kellett et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

Local deprivation appears to play a significant role in living in squalor. This may create 'bi-directional causality' in that local deprivation increases risk of squalor, and living in squalor adds to local deprivation. There needs to be more controlled research regarding squalor, so that targets for intervention (that are malleable) can then be identified, implemented and evaluated

  • Treatment of obsessive morbid jealousy with cognitive analytic therapy

Open Access•Stephen Kellett, Daniel Stockton•ARTICLE•British Journal of Guidance and…•2023

This paper evaluates the effectiveness of 8-sessions of cognitive analytic therapy (CAT) for obsessive morbid jealousy (OMJ). The evaluation method was a mixed-methods A/B with follow-up single-case design. Ideographic jealousy measures were collected throughout baseline (2 sessions), treatment (6 sessions) and follow-up phases (one session) creating a 160-day time series. Nomothetic measures were completed at assessment, end of treatment and at …

  • Modelling Identity Disturbance

    Open Access•Georgia Mangion, Melanie Simmonds-Buckley et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Due to the relevance of identity disturbance to personality disorder this study sought to complete a network analysis of a well validated measure of identity disturbance; the personality structure questionnaire (PSQ). A multi-site and cross-national methodology created an overall sample of N = 1549. The global network structure of the PSQ was analysed and jointly estimated networks were compared across four subsamples (UK versus Italy, adults ver…

Stephen Kellett, Jo Hall et al.•ARTICLE•Nordisk Tidsskrift for Musikkterapi•2019•Cited by: 1•References: 63

This study conducted a feasibility patient preference quasi-experimental study of group cognitive analytic music therapy (G-CAMT) for mentally disordered offenders. Participants either chose or were randomised to 16 sessions of manualised G-CAMT (N = 10) plus treatment as usual (TAU) or TAU alone (N = 10). Self-rated and staff-rated outcomes were assessed at baseline, post-intervention and 8-weeks post-intervention. Residency was assessed at 2-ye…

  • The Influence of Presenting Health Condition on Eventual Return to Work for Individuals Receiving Health‐Related Welfare Benefits

    Open Access•Fiona Purdie, Stephen Kellett•ARTICLE•Social Policy and Administration•2015•Cited by: 3•References: 39

There is currently insufficient research guiding policymakers concerning the influence of the presenting health condition of disability welfare recipients on both their receptivity to health intervention and potential eventual return to work. In the current study, all participants were unemployed and claiming disability welfare, due to either physical ( N = 1,463) or mental health conditions ( N = 2,352). Intervention consisted of a voluntary and…

  • The treatment of chronic post‐traumatic nightmares using psychodynamic‐interpersonal psychotherapy

Open Access•Stephen Kellett, Nigel Beail•ARTICLE•British Journal of Medical…•1997

This article presents a single‐case experimental study of a woman suffering a traumatized reaction to a road traffic accident (RTA). In addition to meeting the DSM‐IV (APA, 1994) criteria for the diagnosis of PTSD, the client suffered recurrent bizarre nightmares. The client reported at assessment, that each night her dreams were dominated by a terrifying hooded cloaked faceless figure. The central aim of the study therefore was to assess the eff…
