  • Geology of the Asinara Island (Sardinia, Italy)

Open Access•R Carosi, Chiara Montomoli et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2024

Understanding how the lithosphere accommodates deformation along oblique convergent plate boundaries is an important issue for unveiling orogenic belt exhumation. The Variscan belt exposed in Sardinia represents an area where it is possible to investigate the inner part of this orogen and a km-scale transpressive shear zone, i.e. the Posada-Asinara shear zone, that drove the exhumation of the metamorphic core of the belt. Even though the Asinara …

  • Geology of the contact area between the Internal and External Nappe Zone of the Sardinian Variscan Belt (Italy)

Open Access•A Petroccia, Chiara Montomoli et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2022

This study aims to decipher the structural evolution of a sector of the Nappe Zone in the Sardinian Variscan Belt. We investigated the Barbagia Thrust between the Meana Sardo Unit (belonging to the External Nappe Zone) in the footwall and the Barbagia Unit (belonging to the Internal Nappe Zone) in the hanging wall. Combining the geological survey with meso- and microstructural analysis, we realized a 1:10.000 scale geological map highlighting the…

  • Geology of the northwestern portion of the Ferriere-Mollieres Shear Zone, Argentera Massif, Italy

    Open Access•R Carosi, Enrico D’Addario et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2016

The Ferriere-Mollieres Shear Zone (FMSZ) is a regional shear zone cross-cutting the Argentera External Crystalline Massif (Western Alps). It shows a NW-SE striking dextral shear zone separating two Variscan migmatitic complexes: the Tinèe to the SW and the Gesso-Stura-Vesubiè to the NE. Geological-structural mapping at 1:10,000 scale focused on the characterization of mylonitic deformation. A deformation gradient has been observed towards the cor…
