  • The institutional future of Brussels

    Open Access•Alain Maskens, Alain P Maskens et al.•TRANSLATOR•ARTICLE•Brussels Studies•2016

A number of public policies – from the regional organisation of multilingual education to the development of multicultural activities, with consistent management of the various Community and regional powers in between – have a hard time fitting into Brussels’s current framework.

Open Access•Els Witte, AdK Translation•TRANSLATOR•ARTICLE•Brussels Studies•2016

This contribution is a first impetus to explain the policy of the Flemish Community Commission during the period 1989‐2004. To this end the discourse of the main actors is analysed, i.e. the ministers who together form the Board and the members of parliament who have a seat in the Council. The Policy statements and the minutes of the meeting are the basis of this analysis. This literature provides interesting information about how the main actors…

  • The use of municipal administrative sanctions by the municipalities of Brussels

Open Access•Paul De Hert, Karen Meerschaut et al.•TRANSLATOR•ARTICLE•Brussels Studies•2016

The laws of 1999 and 2004 concerning the implementation of municipal administrative sanctions (in short GAS legislation) gave local authorities new legal instruments to act more vigourously against phenomena of nuisance. Local authorities can now impose an administrative fine of up to 250 euros for behaviour which is contrary to public order (cleanliness, safety and quiet enjoyment) or which causes “public nuisance”. This publication purports to …
