  • Applying machine learning to gauge the number of women in science, technology, and innovation policy (STIP)

Open Access•Caitlin Meyer, Du Baogui et al.•ARTICLE•Humanities and Social Sciences…•2025

The underrepresentation of women in science, technology, and innovation policy (STIP) continues to hinder global innovation and scientific advancement. While research has examined women’s participation in STEM and policymaking separately, their intersection within STIP as a distinct sector remains understudied. This study addresses this gap by developing a comprehensive machine learning framework to accurately measure and predict women’s represen…

  • Utilizing Classification as a Tool to Address Gender Equality Issues in Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy

Open Access•Caitlin Meyer, Du Baogui et al.•ARTICLE•SAGE Open•2025

Historically, the formulation of science, technology, and innovation policy (STIP) has exhibited a predominantly male perspective, neglecting the critical examination and measurement of gender bias and inequitable educational practices. These two factors significantly contribute to the underrepresentation of women and gender minorities in STIP frameworks. This pervasive global issue potentially hinders innovation within crucial sectors, particula…

  • Examining the Gender Gap in STI Policy

Open Access•Caitlin Meyer, Du Baogui et al.•ARTICLE•SAGE Open•2025

Through a systematic review of the literature regarding (science, technology, and innovation) STI policy and its parent domains—(science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) STEM and policy-making—this article presents a systematic discussion on the key factors perpetuating the underrepresentation of women within STI policy. Eighty-three articles met the inclusion criteria and were coded for the literature synthesis. The analysis identified…

  • Learning strategies in Russian ordinal acquisition

Open Access•Heleen de Vries, Caitlin Meyer et al.•ARTICLE•First Language•2021

This study reports the results of a Give-X task investigating the comprehension of ordinal and cardinal numbers in monolingual Russian-speaking children. Data collected from 36 children between the ages of 4;06 and 5;10 provided evidence that Russian learners follow the well-attested pattern for cardinal acquisition, but that children use a language-specific approach to ordinal acquisition. Lower ordinals elicited more correct responses than high…

  • Systematic Review of Chronic Discrimination and Changes in Biology During Pregnancy Among African American Women

Open Access•Carlye Chaney, Marcela Lopez et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Racial and Ethnic…•2019

  • Learning to suspend implicated contrast

Open Access•Joris Wolterbeek, Lisa van Dijke et al.•ARTICLE•Linguistics in the Netherlands•2017

Children acquire the meaning of ook ‘also’ in Dutch relatively late ( Bergsma 2006 ), although this focus particle is highly frequent. We argue that this late acquisition is caused by a pragmatic rule: contrastive implicature. We follow Sæbø (2004) , who argues that additives are used because without them, the sentences they appear in would be interpreted as contrastive in relation to the context. Data from a sentence completion task administered…
