  • Network scale-up methods on aggregated relational data to estimate the outcome of elections

Open Access•Jorge M Arevalillo, Jhonatthan Maldonado Ramírez et al.•ARTICLE•Social Networks•2026

The Network Scale-Up Method (NSUM) is an estimation framework that aims to determine the size of hidden or hard-to-reach populations from questions such as “How many people do you know who belong to the target population?” The information collected from these questions is commonly referred to as aggregated relational data (ARD), and the estimation of hidden population sizes using NSUM in ARD has been widely applied to key problems in sociology an…

  • Estimating the Covid-19 Prevalence in Spain With Indirect Reporting via Open Surveys

Open Access•Augusto Garcia-Agundez, Oluwasegun Ojo et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2021

During the initial phases of the COVID-19 pandemic, accurate tracking has proven unfeasible. Initial estimation methods pointed toward case numbers that were much higher than officially reported. In the CoronaSurveys project, we have been addressing this issue using open online surveys with indirect reporting. We compare our estimates with the results of a serology study for Spain, obtaining high correlations (R squared 0.89). In our view, these …
