Technological organization and lithic microwear analysis: An alternative methodology
Interpreting the Formation of the Abri Dufaure: An Upper Paleolithic Site in Southwestern France
Stone Tool Caching on the North American Plains: Implications of the McKean Site Tool Kit
A tool cache was recently recovered from the Middle Plains Archaic stratum of the McKean site in Wyoming. Analysis of this cache, including a microwear study of the utilized edges, yielded data about raw material procurement, manufacture, and the use of storage facilities on the NW High Plains of North America. These data are used to make inferences about the technological system from the perspective of implement storage behavior. The characteris…
Determination of adult stature from metatarsal length
The results of a study to determine the value of foot bones in reconstructing stature are presented. The data consist of length measurements taken on all ten metatarsals as well as on cadaver length from a sample of 130 adults of documented race, sex, stature, and, in most cases, age. Significant correlation coefficients (.58–.89) are shown between known stature and foot bone lengths. Simple and multiple regression equations computed from the len…
Terminal Pleistocene adaptations in Pyrenean France: The nature and role of the Abri Dufaure site (Sorde-L'Abbaye, Les Landes)
The authors discuss the goals and some of the preliminary results of the excavation of Abri Dufaure, a Magdalenian and Azilian site in extreme SW France. The stratigraphic sequence covers the period of the Würm Tardiglacial. The lithic industries are quite classic, but the bone industries are numerically poor despite good faunal preservation. Site formation analyses have permitted the discrimination of intact, slightly disturbed and redeposited a…
