    Martin D Topper•ARTICLE•Practicing Anthropology•1995

Managerial anthropology is not a new field. There have been managerial anthropologists in the public sector for at least five decades, and there are an increasing number today in both public and private employment. Managerial anthropologists help administer government programs and manage private corporations by participating in policy development and by implementing and evaluating decisions based on policy

    Martin D Topper•ARTICLE•Practicing Anthropology•1990

Anthropologists? Yes, anthropologists! The general impression created by Deloria and others was that anthropologists, although well-intended, were detached theorists who made their livings and enriched their universities by studying Indians. Anthropologists weren't seen as malicious; they were portrayed as self-centered and misguided "do-gooders" whose research interfered with people's private lives and whose theories only got in the way of India…

  • Extended family therapy

    Open Access•Martin D Topper, Jackie Curtis•ARTICLE•Journal of Community Psychology•1987•Referencias: 2

This article argues that the forms of psychopathology encountered among the members of any cultural group are products of that culture's historical experience and often are expressed in unique cultural forms. This challenges the therapist to modify his or her approach to treatment so that the patient will receive maximum benefit from therapy. We discuss a variation of dysthymic disorder that occurs among Navajo adolescents who live in agency town…

  • A Brief History of Media Anthropology

    E B Eiselein, Martin D Topper et al.•ARTICLE•Human Organization•1976•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 3

Media anthropology is nothing new. Media and anthropology have been inalienably linked since the beginning of anthropology. Anthropologists have experimented with a wide variety of media to communicate anthropology to new audiences. This interaction between anthropologists and the media has rarely been formalized in terms of studies which allow us to make broad generalizations and thus utilize the experiences of others

  • Cable Television

    Martin D Topper, W Leigh Wilson et al.•ARTICLE•Human Organization•1976

The article examines the role of the anthropologist in using cable television as a tool of applied anthropology in a new town. The purpose of the project was to give a group of people a new usage for a communications medium. The anthropologist's role was one of a highly specialized advisor and advocate and required knowledge of anthropology, communications, and television news production

  • Anthropologists and Broadcasting

    E B Eiselein, Martin D Topper et al.•ARTICLE•Human Organization•1976•Citada por: 1

The article describes some of the roles open to anthropologists in radio and television. These roles range from roles which are occupied only on an occasional basis, to a regular part-time basis, to full-time employment within the industry. Entry strategies for occupying these roles include taking the first step in approaching the broadcast station, learning about broadcasting, and communicating anthropology to the broadcasters

  • Media Anthropology

    E B Eiselein, Martin D Topper et al.•ARTICLE•Human Organization•1976•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 3

Media anthropology centers on an awareness of five points of articulation between the various media and anthropology: the study of media, reaching the public with media, gathering data with media, teaching with media, and applied media anthropology. Media anthropology is a diverse field and the reasons for its importance fall into four basic categories: the anthropologists' responsibilities to mankind, the anthropologists' responsibilities to the…
