  • Nutritional status by socioeconomic level in an urban sample from Bilbao (Basque Country)

Esther Rebato, J Rosique et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•2001

Anthropometry, records of food intake, and bioelectric impedance were gathered from a sample of 297 adults of both sexes who lived in marginal districts in the town of Bilbao and benefited from a program of social assistance. This survey aimed to determine present nutritional status and to ascertain the relationship between food intake and nutritional conditions. A comparative evaluation of anthropometry and food intake was then carried out using…

  • Secular changes in growth and maturation: An update

    Open Access•RC Hauspie, M Vercauteren et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Paediatrica•1997

Secular changes in growth and maturation in recent decades have been reviewed for various populations. The secular increase in attained height during the growth period is continuing in most countries, but has slowed down. The increase in adult stature over the past decades has varied between 0.3 and 3.0 cm/decade. The secular trend in the tempo of growth (earlier menarche and peak height velocity, and shortening of the growth cycle) has come to a…

  • Determinants of growth in body length from birth to 6 years of age: A longitudinal study of Lublin children

    Open Access•R Hauspie, R C Hauspie et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•1996

The effect of determinants of growth in body length from birth to 6 years of age were studied in a longitudinal sample of 59 male and 70 female infants from Lublin, Poland. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to study the effects of gender of the child, occupation of the parents, the educational level of the parents, per capita income, the stature of the parents, and the weight of the mother on body length at birth and at 1, 2, 3, and 6 y…

  • Familial resemblance for anthropometrical traits in a Bulgarian population

    Open Access•Maria Nikolova, C Susanne•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1996

Genetic influences on body and craniofacial morphology have been studied on a sample of 251 fathers and 251 mothers and their 502 children over 15 years in 251 urban Bulgarian families. Midparent-offspring correlation coefficients are consistently higher than those from single parent-offspring. However, these values are lower than those expected under exclusive polygenic model, indicating considerable environmental influences. Dominance could be …

  • On the relationship between psychometric and anthropometric traits

    Open Access•C Susanne•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1979•Cited by: 3•References: 8

Many authors have already studied the correlation between stature and psychometric traits; these studies indicate a low but significant correlation coefficient. Others have shown (Clark et al., '61; Schreider, '68; Susanne and Sporcq, '73) a correlation between head size and psychological traits. We have studied the influence of the correlation between stature and psychometric variables on the correlation of head size and psychometry in a sample …

  • Genetic and environmental influences on morphological characteristics

    Open Access•C Susanne•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•1975

Study has been made of 37 anthropometric measurements in a socially selected sample of 125 Belgian families, comprising parents and adult children. The parent-child and mid-parent-child correlation coefficients indicate that the extent of genetic determination varies considerably from one measurement to another, being greatest in the longitudinal body measurements, least in the circumferences involving soft tissues and in measures of the nose and…
