  • The impact of hand dominance on haptic and visual size comparisons

    Open Access•Peter Wühr, Herbert Heuer•ARTICLE•Psychological Research•2026

The present study investigated the impact of handedness on haptic and visual size comparisons. Moreover, we sought to determine whether strength differences between the hands are correlated with lateral differences between judged sizes. Therefore, 80 left-handed and 80 right-handed young adults (without additional constraints on individual characteristics except for those required by the experimental tasks) completed a bimanual haptic size-compar…

  • Response Requirements Shape the Spatial Coding of Location-Specific Adjustments to Conflict Frequency

    Open Access•Peter Wühr, Herbert Heuer•ARTICLE•Open MIND•2026

Humans adjust to the frequency of conflicting stimuli so that the detrimental behavioral effects of frequent conflicts become smaller than those of rare conflicts. These adjustments become contingent on the locations where frequent and infrequent conflicts have been encountered. Experimentally such phenomena are studied by means of conflict tasks, a prominent one being the Simon task of the present experiments. Our Simon task involved four stimul…

  • The perils of the first try

    Open Access•David J C Smith, Philip Furley et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Research•2025

Task such as hammering or throwing darts involve intentional actions performed with the anticipation of a desired effect that requires precision to achieve success. Visual perception of the goal, defined in an external frame of reference, plays a crucial role in specifying movement parameters in a body-centered frame of reference. Physical interruption of the task decouples the internal and external frames of reference leading to rapid performanc…

  • Imagery practice of motor skills without conscious awareness

    Open Access•Herbert Heuer•ARTICLE•Psychological Research•2024

Modifications of imagined sensory consequences will not benefit overt performance when they cannot be transformed into motor outflow that produces them. With physical practice, the acquisition of internal models of motor transformations is largely based on prediction errors that are absent in imagery practice. What can imagery practice nevertheless contribute to transformation learning? Explicit, strategic adjustments to novel transformations sho…

  • From Psychologische Forschung to psychological research

    Open Access•Herbert Heuer•ARTICLE•Psychological Research•2022

Psychologische Forschung started as a journal “für Psychologie und ihre Grenzgebiete” and became strongly associated with the Berlin school of Gestalt psychology. Parallel to the fate of that school, the Journal was discontinued after 1938 and re-appeared only 1949. A number of years with variable and broad editorial boards and without a clear profile followed. In 1974 the Journal switched to English as the first German psychology journal and bec…

  • A condition that produces sensory recalibration and abolishes multisensory integration

    Open Access•Miya K Rand, Herbert Heuer•ARTICLE•Cognition•2020

  • Explicit and implicit components of visuo-motor adaptation

    Open Access•Herbert Heuer, Mathias Hegele•ARTICLE•Consciousness and Cognition•2015

  • Pädagogische Psychologie

Andreas Gold, Marcus Hasselhorn et al.•BOOK•Pädagogische Psychologie•2013

  • Motor Control

Open Access•Herbert Heuer, Cristina Massen•OTHER•Handbook of Psychology, Second…•2012

This chapter gives an overview of basic findings, theoretical approaches, and applied perspectives in the field of motor control. In the first section, the core problem of motor control is introduced and two fundamental ways of solving it are presented: open-loop (feed forward) and closed-loop (feedback) control. The next section takes a closer look at feed-forward processes, which are initiated before a movement starts. They are, therefore, disc…

  • Verkehrspsychologie

Mark Vollrath, Josef F Krems et al.•BOOK•Verkehrspsychologie•2011

Karlheinz Sonntag, Ralf Stegmaier et al.•BOOK•Arbeitsorientiertes Lernen•2007•Cited by: 1

Arbeitsorientiertes Lerne…
