In this study, we aimed to explore patient perceptions of adherence to tuberculosis (TB) treatment and construct a theoretical model of treatment adherence behavior. We conducted semistructured interviews with 11 adherent patients from Tanzania whom we recruited by purposive sampling. The interview data were analyzed by content analysis. We found that the patient's intention to adhere is the most important determinant of adherence behavior. This …

Open Access•Bas Van De Meerendonk, Rob Eisinga et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2003

A national sample of 921 respondents from the Dutch population completed the translated, slightly modified version of Herek's Attitudes Toward Lesbians and Gay Men Scale, originally developed in the USA for the assessment of attitudes toward lesbians and gay men. • Images of Death as Perspectives in a Life Crisis

Albert Felling, Albert J A Felling et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Empirical Theology•2001

Images of death are reflections of one's own attitude to life, and in existential crises such as a suicide crisis, their meaning should therefore not be underestimated. This article describes the results of a research that has attempted to discuss attitudes, which people adopt towards death in times of a suicide crisis. The analysis of the data shows that death is looked upon from an immanentistic and religious viewpoint. Within this context the …

    Rob Eisinga, J Billiet et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1999•Cited by: 12•References: 5

Almost every student of religion has heard about the research thesis that Christian religious beliefs and behaviors are not barriers against but contributing factors to the development and dispersal of ethnic and racial prejudice. This cross-societal study examines this accusing finger of social research by using data from a 1985 Dutch survey and a 1991 Flemish survey conducted in the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium. Various studies show that up to 40% of dogs are labelled as having behavioral problems causing at least some inconvenience. The present paper deals with the owner's perception of inappropriate dog behavior and the characteristics of the situations in which this behavior occurs. • Moral Consciousness, Religion and Peace Action

Johannes A Van Der Ven, Ronald Jeurissen et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Empirical Theology•1996

A communitarian ethical approach is at least as important for the pastoral dealing with peace issues in the church as a procedural ethical approach. Empirical support for this thesis is gathered through a survey among 175 members of Dutch church peace movements and 127 church members who are not active in a peace movement. First, a conceptualisation of communitarian peace attitudes is elaborated. Then, the effects of communitarian peace attitudes…

Rob Eisinga, Albert Felling et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Contemporary Religion•1996•Cited by: 1•References: 3

Using data from 1098 national Dutch surveys, this paper explores trends in the influence of religious denomination on votes for confessional political parties in the Netherlands from 1964 to 1992. The broad question is whether confessional voting has declined over this 29‐year period; the narrow issue is whether the declines vary with religious denomination and time. Logit analysis of the overall effect allows a downward trend in the influence of…

According to Greeley, Catholics are communitarian, and Protestants are individualistic, due to their different images of God. In this study, Greeley's argument is tested against data from two Dutch nationwide surveys conducted in 1985 (N=3003) and 1990 (N=2384). Differences between Catholics, three types of Protestants, and non-members are investigated. Catholics were, amongst others, expected to be more likely than Protestants to conform to and …
