Chemical Analysis of Glass Beads From Medieval Al‐basra (Morocco)
This paper reports the results of elemental analysis, using laser ablation – inductively coupled plasma – mass spectrometry (LA–ICP–MS), of 30 glass beads from an assemblage of beads excavated at medieval al‐Basra, Morocco. Six chemical glass types are represented and their characteristics and geographical origins are discussed, with reference also to the techniques used to make the beads. Worked bone tools: Linking metal artisans and animal processors in medieval Islamic Morocco
The authors examine the spatial distribution, use-wear patterns and surface residue of bone tools from al-Basra, concluding that they were likely to be have been used by Islamic metalworkers. The presence of bone tools and butchery waste in an urban metalworking context underscores the close economic ties that existed between artisans and food producers in a pre-industrial urban centre in the western Mediterranean

Manufacture and Use of Clay Sickles from the Uruk Mound, Abu Salabikh, Iraq
Although clay sickles are common at late Ubaid and early Uruk sites in southern Mesopotamia, they have received little concerted attention from archaeological researchers. This article surveys the literature of clay sickles and presents a technological, morphological and spatial study of 1,650 clay sickles from the Uruk Mound, Abu Salabikh, in southern Iraq. The study suggests that clay sickles were multipurpose tools that were used in activities…
