  • The Hunter Hypothesis: Scientific Speculation and Ancestral Imaginaries of Adult ADHD in Chile

    Open Access•Hugo Sir•ARTICLE•Science Technology & Human Values•2025•References: 43

In this paper, I examine the social, subjective, and scientific implications of the hunter hypothesis, an evolutionary etiology for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). By tracing its presence in Chilean “everyday life” narratives and “neuropsychiatric” discourses, I argue for greater attention to the ancestral imaginaries within evolutionary etiologies. This perspective aims to enhance the study of medical categories as tools for sel…

  • Infrastructure and Dignity: Notes on the Becoming of the Chilean Revolt

Vitrina Dystópica, Patricio Azócar Donoso et al.•ARTICLE•South Atlantic Quarterly•2023

The result of the 2022 plebiscite in Chile indicates a new stage of the Chilean neoconservative and oligarchic reaction, as well as of the mood of the social forces that developed with the 2019 revolt. Drawing on political research collective Vitrina Dystópica's archive of dialogues, interviews, and interventions, this article proposes an analytical exercise that seeks to challenge the ongoing totalitarian coup of the political imagination. This …

  • Trans-border Friendships and Strategic Inclinations: Some Insights on the Molecular Emergence of Subversion in Chile

Patricio Azócar Donoso, Hugo Sir Retamales et al.•ARTICLE•New Global Studies•2020

In the last 30 years, Chile has crowned itself as one of the most singular, sophisticated, and cruel reference points of the global neoliberal laboratory. This article delves into the conceptual thinking of that laboratory by investigating the formation of an emotive-financial consensus based on the operation of institutionalizing sadism and a masochism of merit that profits from the affective destruction of collective intelligence. It situates t…

The purpose of this article is to describe the subjective experience of the diagnosis of Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and the cultural meanings that shape this experience. Based on interviews and discussion groups with diagnosed people and their families in Chile and France, this article show that ADHD can acquire multiple meanings. From a thematic analysis, we identified three registers or ways of living and thinking about…

  • The politics of error: Rethinking the power of the symptom in the case of ADHD diagnosis in Chilean society

Open Access•Esteban Radiszcz, Hugo Sir•ARTICLE•Journal of Social and Political…•2018•References: 6

This article seeks, mainly, to develop a critical approach to the problem of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and, through this, to rethink the problem of activism and militancy in relation to the power of a symptom linked to a corporality that seems to overflow a determined moral political framework. For this reason, we seek to think of a militancy that intensifies error, as a political power, beyond the search for a specific and …
