  • Petrographic and geochemical characterization of Eocene limestones from Thugga / Dougga (Tunisia): Implications for the provenance of stones used in construction and sculpture in the ancient town

Open Access•François Fournier, Philippe Bromblet et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2026•References: 2

Petrographic and geochemical analysis of Eocene limestones at Dougga. • Ten lithofacies tied to lithostratigraphic units, mapped across the site. • Monumental stone was locally sourced within 1 km of Dougga. • Stone choice reflects durability, carving ease, and function of use. • Quarrying practices evolved from Punic to Roman Imperial periods. • Radiocarbon Dating of Mummified Human Remains: Application to a Series of Coptic Mummies from the Louvre Museum

Open Access•Pascale Richardin, Magali Coudert et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2013•Cited by: 4•References: 17

Many French museums keep in their reserves a great number of mummified human remains. Beyond any ethical or deontological issues, they constitute an important part of our archaeological and historical heritage. Their dating is often inexact and imprecise, but nevertheless this parameter is very interesting, especially if correlated or associated with other analytical or typological data, e.g. the process of mummification. The present study has be…

  • First Direct Radiocarbon Dating of the Lower Congo Rock Art (Democratic Republic of the Congo)

Open Access•Geoffroy Heimlich, Pascale Richardin et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2013•Cited by: 4•References: 15

Lower Congo rock art is concentrated in a region that stretches from Kinshasa to the Atlantic coast and from northern Angola to southern Congo-Brazzaville. Presently inhabited by the Ndibu, one of the Kongo subgroups, the Lovo Massif is situated north of the ancient Kongo Kingdom. With 102 sites (including 16 decorated…

  • Étude et restauration de deux momies du musée Joseph-Denais de Beaufort-en-Vallée

Open Access•Laure Cadot, Magali Coudert et al.•ARTICLE•Spotlight•2013•Cited by: 1•References: 4
