  • Neuroanatomical correlates of social dominance orientation and the contributing role of reward sensitivity

    Open Access•Jesús Adrián‐Ventura, Angelo Fasce et al.•ARTICLE•Current Psychology•2026

Social Dominance Orientation (SDO) is a central construct in social psychology that reflects individuals’ preference for group-based hierarchies and intergroup dominance. Despite extensive research on this trait, little is known about its neural underpinnings. Investigating the neuroanatomical correlates of SDO may help clarify the dispositional mechanisms sustaining social hierarchies, revealing how stable brain traits relate to ideological orie…

Open Access•J C Alegre, Juan Carlos Arrasco Alegre et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2024

Strengthening primary health care (PHC) is the most cost-effective approach in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) to achieve sustainable universal health coverage (UHC), protect against health shocks, and promote health and wellbeing for all people. It has been 45 years since PHC was put on the global agenda followed by multiple efforts to advocate for more funding and improved performance of PHC. Yet, investment in PHC is still insufficien…

  • Two different brain networks underlying picture naming with familiar pre-existing native words and new vocabulary

    Open Access•María‐Ángeles Palomar‐García, María-Ángeles Palomar-García et al.•ARTICLE•Brain and Language•2023

The present research used fMRI to longitudinally investigate the impact of learning new vocabulary on the activation pattern of the language control network by measuring BOLD signal changes during picture naming tasks with familiar pre-existing native words (old words) and new vocabulary. Nineteen healthy participants successfully learned new synonyms for already known Spanish words, and they performed a picture naming task using the old words an…

  • Where will the money come from? Alternative mechanisms to HIV donor funding

Open Access•Itamar Katz, Subrata Routh et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2014

Domestic sources of funding are important alternatives to consider and might be able to replace donor HIV funding in specific country contexts, coupled with effective prioritization and efficiency measures. Successful resource mobilization design and implementation require close collaboration with other sectors, particularly with the Ministry of Finance, to make sure that the new financing mechanism is fully synchronized with economic growth and …

  • Determinants of government HIV/Aids financing

Open Access•Carlos Ávila, Dejan Lončar et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2013

Domestic resources in low- and middle-income countries showed a threefold increase between 2000 and 2010 and currently support 50 percent of the global response with 41 percent coming from sub-Saharan Africa. Domestic spending in LMICs was associated with increased economic growth and an increased burden of HIV. Sustained increases in funding for HIV from public sources were observed in all regions and emphasize the increasing importance of gover…

  • Distinguishing BIS-mediated and BAS-mediated disinhibition mechanisms

Carlos Ávila, César Avila•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•2001

The theoretical framework developed by J. A. Gray (1981, 1987a, 1987b) was used to study disinhibitory behavior. Using a point-scoring reaction time procedure, 4 different experiments were conducted to differentiate 2 disinhibitory mechanisms associated with the behavioral activation system (BAS) and the behavioral inhibition system (BIS). Consistent with the work of C. M. Patterson and J. P. Newman (1993), the BAS-mediated mechanism was related …
