  • Warstwy czasu i antropocen. Metafory geologiczne w pamięcioznawstwie

    Open Access•Łukasz Skoczylas, Janusz Skoczylas•ARTICLE•Kultura i Społeczeństwo•2023

The article describes the use of geological metaphors in humanistic and social memory studies. It shows how geological concepts are used in contemporary research and theoretical reflection on memory: what phenomena and processes they describe, how their use in a distant scientific discipline is justified, and how comparisons are made between the meaning of a given term in geology and its meaning in memory studies. The considerations are illustrat…

  • Kamienne dziedzictwo wczesnopiastowskiej architektury

    Open Access•Janusz Skoczylas•ARTICLE•Slavia Antiqua Rocznik poświęcony…•2018

In the article I draw attention to the lack of consistency in descriptions of the rock material used to build the first structures in the early Piast state. The role and importance of the types of stone material used at that time are unappreciated, if not downright ignored. I emphasize the fact that the main material used in early-medieval building construction were glacial erratics, sometimes representing up to 98% of the entire building materia…

  • Gemstones from the ducal part of the fortified settlement of Poznań (10th/11th century) in the light of gemological studies and micro-Raman spectroscopy

Open Access•Michał Sachanbiński, Hanna Kóčka-Krenz et al.•ARTICLE•Slavia Antiqua Rocznik poświęcony…•2014

During archaeological excavations in Poznań there were discovered a ducal palace, a chapel dated to the 10th century, and goldsmith’s workshop adjacent to them. In the layer of ashes at the bottom of the manufacture, there were fragments of gold found together with numerous glass beads and gems. Fourteen gems, made of rock crystal, agate, carnelian, milky chalcedony, garnet, were chosen for gemstone analysis and micro-Raman spectroscopy. The stud…

  • Gipsowe zaprawy murarskie w początkach państwa polskiego

    Open Access•Janusz Skoczylas•ARTICLE•Slavia Antiqua Rocznik poświęcony…•2014

The text brings attention to the role and significance of examination of rock material in the first stone buildings from the beginning of the Polish state, primarily in Poznań, Ostrów Lednicki, Gniezno, Giecz and Łekno. The most part of the text is devoted to gypsum, which, after a technological processing, was used as mortar. The natural bassets of gypsum and its waterless variety, i.e., anhydrite, can be found in the village of Wapno near Wągro…
