  • Prehistoric Living-Floors and Evidence for them in North Queensland Rockshelters

    Mireille Mardaga-Campbell•ARTICLE•Australian Archaeology•1986•Cited by: 6•References: 11

The study of prehistoric living-floors is a comparatively new endeavour in Australia (e.g. see comments in Shawcross and Kaye 1980:120; Mardaga-Campbell and Campbell 1985:105). This is doubtless because most excavations in this country so far have generally been rather small or narrow soundings. In rockshelters especially, large excavations extending to more than 50% of the site are very rare (e.g. Yarrar Shelter, Flood 1970), but a few open-air …

  • Lithic occurences and stratigraphic problems at Turtle Rock (Hervey Range), North Queensland

    Open Access•Mireille Mardaga-Campbell•ARTICLE•Queensland Archaeological Research•1985•Cited by: 8•References: 17

This paper looks at a number of aspects of the knapping or reduction sequences represented amongst the substantial quantities of lithic material which were collected during three successive excavation campaigns from 1977 to 1979 at Turtle Rock (Hervey Range), North Queensland. It presents the first detailed description of this material, and it also considers the principal stratigraphic problems encountered during those and subsequent excavation c…

  • It All Hinges on Stone

    Mireille Mardaga-Campbell, Alan B Pomeroy et al.•ARTICLE•Australian Archaeology•1982•Cited by: 4•References: 1

This note serves as a brief summary of the initial stages of work in the establishment of a data bank at Townsville for north Queensland prehistory, as well as a preliminary formal request to other archaeologists who carry out fieldwork in north Queensland and who might wish to participate in establishing and using the data bank
