  • Agenda control in the Bundestag, 1980–2002

    William M Chandler, Gary W Cox et al.•ARTICLE•German Politics•2006•Cited by: 11

We find strong evidence of monopoly legislative agenda control by government parties in the Bundestag. First, the government parties have near-zero roll rates, while the opposition parties are often rolled over half the time. Second, only opposition parties’ (and not government parties’) roll rates increase with the distances of each party from the floor median. Third, almost all policy moves are towards the government coalition (the only excepti…

  • Foreign and European Policy Issues in the 2002 Bundestag Elections

    William M Chandler•ARTICLE•German Politics & Society•2003

Is it always the economy, or do external issues sometimes matter, too? Consistent with the Clinton campaign slogan of 1992, political scientists generally predict that domestic economic issues are primary in determining election winners. This proposition, with its several variants, rests on many years of survey data and analysis that have consistently indicated that international conditions and foreign policy rarely, if ever, rate highly in publi…

    William M Chandler, Alan Siaroff•ARTICLE•Comparative Politics•1986•Cited by: 9•References: 3

The 1983 German federal election marks the first time since the establishment of the three-party system in the 1950s that a new party has gained sufficient votes to enter the Bundestag. More important, the party that achieved this, the Greens, is one that poses a fundamental challenge to the established structure of political elites in the Federal Republic. The combination of a successful breakthrough by a protest movement, often labeled an antip…

Cet article m…

  • Peer-Group Socialization among German Students

    Open Access•William M Chandler•ARTICLE•Canadian Journal of Political…•1974•Cited by: 2•References: 25

When compared to research on the family and the school, the study of peer groups within the context of political socialization is a relatively neglected area. Somewhat more concern for peer-group effects has been indicated by non-political social scientists, especially social psychologists. But even though some of their work is suggestive, its application is often marginal for explaining political attitudes. Just as the existing theory on peer-gr…
