  • Longitudinal Observation on the Limb Growth of Japanese-American Hybrids with Special Regard to Seasonal Variation

Open Access•Akiyoshi SUDA, Hiroshi Hoshi et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Anthropological…•1976

Somatometric analysis was done on longitudinal data of limb growth obtained from 60 male and 31 female Japanese-American hybrids. It revealed the hybrids had the longer upper limbs than the Japanese and the shorter lower limbs than the Americans. It was suggested that the growth of the upper limb might have been influenced rather strongly by the American characters and that of the lower limb by the Japanese characters. In the girth growth of the …

  • Longitudinal Observation on the Pectoral Growth of Japanese- American Hybrids with Special Reference to the Difference in Growth Pattern between Thoracal and Extrathoracal Parts

Open Access•Akiyoshi SUDA, Hiroshi Hoshi et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Anthropological…•1975

The chest breadth and depth of 60 male and 31 female Japanese-American hybrids were longitudinally examined over a period from 6 to 15 years of age. In both measurements, the hybrids showed a tendency to approach Americans, or to become remote from Japanese, with advancing age. In order to analyse the thoracal (viscera) and extrathoracal (soft tissues) growth separately, the ages at peak velocity of both measurements were examined correlatively i…

  • Longitudinal observation on Anterior Trunk Height, Iliospinal Height, Biacromial Breadth and Bicristal Breadth of JapaneseAmerican Hybrids from 6 to 15 Years of Age

Open Access•Akiyoshi SUDA, Hiroshi Hoshi et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Anthropological…•1973

Japanese-American hybrid children, 60 males and 31 females, were measured repeatedly over a period from 6 to 15 years of age. Their growth was compared with that of the parental groups, Americans and Japanese. In general, White hybrids had longer trunk, shorter leg, narrower shoulder and broader pelvis than Negro hybrids, reflecting the difference between American Whites and Negroes. In respect to vertical sizes and proportions, hybrids tended to…

  • Longitudinal Observation on the Chest Circumference and Sitting Height of Japanese-American Hybrids from 6 to 15 Years of Age

Open Access•Akiyoshi SUDA, Hiroshi Hoshi et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Anthropological…•1968

The present longitudinal growth study was made on 36 male and 21 female Japanese-American hybrids to clarify age changes in mean values of the chest circumference and sitting height. Analysis was also made on age changes in size relative to stature in the same subjects.(1) In females, the chest circumference was greater in the hybrids than in the Japanese after puberty, probably because of the considerably better development of the breasts (mamma…

  • Longitudinal Observation on the Stature and Body Weight of Japanese American Hybrids from 6 to 15 years of Age

Open Access•Akiyoshi SUDA, Bin YAMAGUCHI et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Anthropological…•1965

The average growth changes of the stature and body weight of JapaneseAmerican hybrids who live inwelfare homes for children in Japan were analysed. The complete longitudinal data of 36 boys and 21 girls were used.1) It did not affect the growth of the stature and body weight of the hybrids whether their fathers were whites or negroes.2) As compared with their parental groups, the hybrids were as tall as the Japanese at the age of 6 years, but the…

  • New Data on the Population in the Tokugawa Period

    Open Access•Akiyoshi SUDA•ARTICLE•The Journal of Anthropological…•1954

I bought a manuscript some days ago and found in it some descriptions on the population of each Province (Kuni) of Japan in the year 1721, the first census in the Tokugawa Period, which has not been known, hetherto, to the present time scholars. The numerals will be seen in the Japanese text

  • The Body-Build of Baseballers (1)

Open Access•Akiyoshi SUDA, KEN MASUTANI•ARTICLE•The Journal of Anthropological…•1952

The anthropological measurements were taken on 126 Japanese professional baseballers during the season of 1949. They are divided into four groups from the viewpoint of their body sizes and proportions : pitchers, catchers, in-and outfielders. The most variance is found among the infielders and the least among the catchers in their body size. Among the outfielders the least variance is found in their legs. body proportions. Pitchers are, in genera…
