  • The Influence of Clothings on the Lower Critical Temperature

Open Access•Masahiko Sato, Kazuhiko YAMASAKI et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Anthropological…•1984

This paper describes the effect of clothing insulation on the lower critical temperature. Ten young adult females assumed reclining position at 12°C for one and half hour. The lower critical temperature was estimated at 0.43clo, 0.67clo, 0.87clo, 1.25clo, and 1.75clo conditions according to the intersect method. The regression equation of the lower critical temperature on the do value was LCT=31, 6-5.861, where LCT is the lower critical temperatu…

  • The Lower and Upper Critical Temperatures for Oxygen Intake at Rest

Open Access•Masahiko Sato, Yuji Takasaki et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Anthropological…•1980

A new system named the polynomial equation method was proposed in the present study for the determinations of the lower and upper critical air and body temperatures for oxygen intake at rest. Nine young adult males were tested by the new method and the critical temperatures of them were determined as follows: the lower critical air temperature to be 23.8°C, the upper critical air temperature to be 45.4°C, the lower and upper critical mean skin te…

  • A Comparison of Maximal Oxygen Intake of Japanese Female Athletes Determined by Direct and Indirect Methods

Open Access•Masahiro YAMASAKI, Kazuhiko YAMASAKI et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Anthropological…•1977

Changes of the surface and needle electromyogram (EMG) of the biceps brachii in fatigue were investigated. The subjects kept a 10 kg weight applied to the wrist with the elbow flexed about 90°, until they were not able to maintain the elbow in this position. This exhausting contraction was repeated twelve times with a pause of 30 sec between each contraction until eight times. The pause durations from 9 th contraction to 12 th were longer than 30 …

  • Heart Rate as an Index of Oxygen Intake

Open Access•Masahiko Sato, Haruhiko Sato et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Anthropological…•1977

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relibaility and validity of prediction of the oxygen intake during works on the basis of heart rate at work.During four kinds of standard treadmill walking of 3.6km/h with a slope varying from o to 15 degrees and four kinds of standard bicycle ergometer work of o to 900kgm/min, the oxygen intake and heart rate were measured on four young adult males(Table1).For the whole subjects and for each indivi…

  • Estimation of Maximal Oxygen Intake from Submaximal Works at Air Temperature of 20°C, 30°C, and 40°C

Open Access•Masahiko Sato, Kazuhiko YAMASAKI et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Anthropological…•1976

The estimation of maximal oxygen intake from heart rate and oxygen intake during submaximal works at different air temperature conditions was investigated, and as a result, a nomogram available for the estimation at 20°C, 30°C, and 40°C has been published (SATO, SAKATE & TAKASAKI '76). However, this nomogram is responsible only for males. The first purpose of this study is to improve the nomogram with female data and to make it responsible for bo…
