  • Millennial-Scale Solar Variability in Tree Rings of Northern Fennoscandia at the End of the Holocene

    Elena A Kasatkina, Е А Касаткина et al.•ARTICLE•Tree-Ring Research•2023

To investigate the possible Sun–climate connection during the Holocene, the Finnish super-long tree-ring chronology covering the period from 5634 B.C. to A.D. 2004 was analyzed. As an indicator of solar activity, we used a reconstruction of total solar irradiance (TSI) covering 9300 years, which is based on a composite using the cosmogenic radionuclide 10Be measured in polar ice cores, and also on neutron monitor data (Steinhilber et al. 2009). T…

  • Ecotoxicity responses of ciliates Paramecium bursaria to trace metals and rare-earth elements

Alexey V Chramov, Lidia V Kontrosh et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

The use of trace rare metals and rare-earth elements (REEs) in diverse areas of the world economy (e.g. agronomy, medicine, industry) has significantly increased during the last decades. At present, the information on the ecotoxicological effects of these elements is scarce and contradictory. This study aims to evaluate the ecotoxicity of 15 REEs (Sc, Y, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, and Lu) and 3 trace rare metals (Ga, Ge, and …

  • Features of Suicide Dyunamics and Cyclicity and Heliogeophysical and Anthropogenic Factors in Kola North

    Open Access•E A Kasatkina, Е А Касаткина et al.•ARTICLE•Ekologiya Cheloveka (Human Ecology•2014•References: 8

The suicide dynamics of three towns of the Murmansk oblast (Apatity, Kirovsk, Monchegorsk) from 1967 till 2010 has been analyzed. It has been shown that the complex of heliogeophysical and man-made factors seemed to influence the suicide dynamics in the high latitudes. The variety of suicide occurrence showed periodicities close to the main solar cycles. At the same time, a simultaneous decrease of suicide occurrence observed in three towns durin…

  • Long-Term Temperature Trends and Tree Growth in the Taymir Region of Northern Siberia

    Open Access•Gordon C Jacoby, Nikolai V Lovelius et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2000

The northernmost conifers in the world are located well above the Arctic Circle in the Taymir region of northern Siberia and have been recording the thermal environment for centuries to millennia. The trees respond to temperatures beyond the narrow season of actual cambial cell division by means of root growth, photosynthesis, lignification of cell walls, and other biochemical processes. Data from annual tree-ring widths are used to reconstruct M…
