Nitrate concentrations in drinking water and the relation to different crop types production in the province of Valencia (Spain)
The aim of the present study was to investigate the evolution of nitrates contamination of public drinking water in the province of Valencia, where is concentrated most fertilizer consumption of Spain, between 1968 and 1991, and its relation to the different types of crops found in this municipalities. Correlation analysis and factorial analysis was made of the between nitrate concentrations in public drinking water in the years 1968, 1981 and 19…
Use of physicochemical processing in treating urban waste waters
The principal objective of the present study was to compare two clearly defined purification processes in two stages: the periods 1985–1987 (conventional) and 1988–1990 (physico‐chemical). In general, the mean concentrations obtained were lower in the second period. A z‐test for comparing means was applied, but no significant correlation was observed (p ≤ 0.05). The mean concentrations obtained (with some exceptions) are lower in the second perio…
The evolution of sulfur oxide levels and suspended particles in the air of the city of Valencia, 1979–1989
The evolution of sulfur oxides and suspended particles (smoke and settleable materials) in the atmosphere of the Spanish Mediterranean city of Valencia, corresponding to the period 1979–1989, were determined. The contamination levels in industrial versus residential areas of the city were contrasted, as were the relative contributions of each zone to the mean total of each contaminant. Also determined were the mean annual concentrations of each c…
Wastewater treatment in Valencia city (Spain)
Our objective is to determine the changes in the wastewater treatment process in the city of Valencia by taking into account population changes during the period 1983–1990. We have consulted analytical data and information regarding this volume of water treated in a biological treatment plant of activated sludge; data was collected daily and introduced into a data matrix from which the distribution and central tendency measures were calculated. W…
