Effect of biomass burning on air quality and perception of value in southern Brazil
Pollution from forest fires constitutes a negative externality that affects people’s well-being and health. This study aimed to assess air quality and estimate the perceived economic value attributed to firefighting. The concentrations of PM10, metals (lead, cadmium, copper, and iron), 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and retene, an indicator of biomass burning, were monitored in 2022 and 2023.
