Analysis of dynamic responses of a biosorber under fasting conditions
A theoretical analysis applicable to packed bed biosorbers subjected to fasting conditions (no loading) and taking into consideration external mass transfer resistance, internal diffusional resistance accompanied by biological reaction (Michaelis‐Menten kinetics) and diffusion and adsorption onto activated carbon particles has been developed. The substrate concentration profiles in the various regions show that the response to the fasting perturb…
Response of a packed bed biological reactor to perturbation of feed concentration and temperature
The performance characteristics of a packed bed biological reactor have been analyzed under triangular perturbation of substrate concentration and temperature for zero order, first order and Michaelis‐menten kinetics, respectively. The model equations have been solved by the method of orthogonal collocation. The results show that the mean value of steady‐state conversion is not affected by the perturbation imposed for the case of first order and …
