  • A review of mathematical modelling of biofilm processes

    Shafkat A Beg, Muhammad Arshad S Chaudhry•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1999

The paper reviews the developments in the mathematical modelling of important aerobic biofilm processes‐nitrification, combined carbon oxidation and nitrification, simultaneous nitrification and denitrification (SND) and simultaneous adsorption and biodegradation — that have been made during the past two decades. This article coniders only a selection of those publications that have created a significant impact on the trends and techniques of mod…

  • Response of a packed bed biological reactor to perturbation of feed concentration and temperature

    S A Beg, M M Hassan et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1995

The performance characteristics of a packed bed biological reactor have been analyzed under triangular perturbation of substrate concentration and temperature for zero order, first order and Michaelis‐menten kinetics, respectively. The model equations have been solved by the method of orthogonal collocation. The results show that the mean value of steady‐state conversion is not affected by the perturbation imposed for the case of first order and …
