Olabisi Oladipo, Olabisi E Oladipo et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Mental…•2026

The WHO’s Mental Health Gap Action Programme (mhGAP) offers an evidence-based framework to integrate mental health into primary health care (PHC), especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Open Access•Abiodun Adewuya, Abiodun O Adewuya et al.•ARTICLE•Health Policy and Planning•2026•References: 21

Mental health conditions remain a leading contributor to global disability; however, treatment coverage in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) stays below 20%; in Nigeria, services are underfunded and largely excluded from primary health care (PHC). This study documents the institutional processes through which the Transition-to-Scale phase of the Mental Health in Primary Care (MeHPriC) initiative scaled up task-shifted mental health service…

  • Exploring contextual barriers and facilitators to sustaining mental health integration in primary care

Open Access•Abiodun Adewuya, Abiodun O Adewuya et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Global Health•2025

Background: Mental health interventions in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) face significant sustainability challenges, often leading to 'programme drift' (protocol deviation ) and 'voltage drop' (reduced effectiveness). While implementation science frameworks emphasise fidelity, they often fail to explain how frontline providers in resource-constrained settings maintain services. Here, we investigate how adaptive mechanisms function as l…
