A Serial Processing Model for Tactile Scanning
A stochastic model is developed in order to describe random fluctuations of the latency that the scanner consumes when he recognizes tactually the upper-case letters of the alphabet with his right finger tip. A mode of operation of the hypothetical decision-making mechanism is assumed to be a serial processing mode from which a probability density function of processing-time is derived, and the estimation procedure of the parameters is discussed.…
Methodological Studies of Size Constancy (2)
A theory is developed with respect to size constancy in two stimuli comparison situation. Two kinds of polar comparisons between the standard and comparison stimuli presented at different distances, are enunciated; one is comparison of occlusion, and the other is comparison of proportionality. The gradient in visual field was experimentally treated as a physically controllable variable for these comparisons. Results are:(a) Perceived size varies …
Size Constancy by the Method of Single Stimuli a Methodological Study
From the point of view of measurement models, size constancy of a single object was investigated by using three-dimensional familiar and unfamiliar objects. Two measurement models were applied to a stimulus series. One measurement model referred to perceived size and another assumed size. Presentation distance of the stimuli ranged from 1m to 5m apart from the O. The results are:(a) Constancy of assumed size was higher than that of perceived size…
Methodological Studies of Size Constancy (1)
A classification is given between size constancy in two stimuli comparison situation and size constancy in single stimuli situation. Both types of size constancy are compared experimentally. Results are: (a) Constancy of perceived size in single stimuli situation is higher than that of perceived size in two stimuli comparison situation. (b) In two stimuli comparison situation, the effect of change in observational conditions is predominant, where…
