  • The effects of schema on recognition memories and subjective experiences for actions and objects

    Open Access•Ryoma Yamada, Yukio Itsukushima•ARTICLE•Japanese Psychological Research•2013

We examined how the schema affects recognition memories and subjective experiences for actions and objects. First, participants watched consecutive slides that described a man in the kitchen. In the slides, the man performed schema‐consistent actions and schema‐inconsistent actions, and schema‐consistent objects and schema‐inconsistent objects were left in the kitchen space. After watching the slides, participants completed a recognition test, a …

  • Effects of test sequence on anterograde and retrograde impairment of negative emotional scenes 1

Open Access•Masanobu Takahashi, Yukio Itsukushima et al.•ARTICLE•Japanese Psychological Research•2006

The present study examined recognition for sequences of scenes depicting emotional compared with neutral events. In two experiments, participants were presented with a thematic series of 18 slides of scenes in which the content of two critical scenes in the middle of the series were either emotional (dead men's bodies) or neutral (an opera). A two‐item, forced‐choice recognition paradigm was used to test participants’ immediate memory performance…

  • Eyewitness testimony after three months

Open Access•Makiko Naka, Yukio Itsukushima et al.•ARTICLE•Japanese Psychological Research•1996

There are cases when one is asked to give testimony about an incident that was of no significance until a certain point in time, after which it suddenly became important. Based upon a real case in which a salesclerk gave eyewitness testimony and identified a suspect from a photograph 4 months after the sale, we studied the accuracy of memory for such an incident in everyday life in natural settings. Eighty‐six salesclerks served as subjects. A co…

  • Representation and retrieval of two-digit numbers in mental comparison

Yukio Itsukushima, JYUNKO TOZAWA et al.•ARTICLE•Japanese Psychological Research•1990

Subjects were asked to judge whether two-digit numbers randomly selected from 11 to 39 were smaller or larger than a standard number of 25, and also whether two-digit numbers from 61 to 89 were smaller or larger than another standard number of 75. In both tasks, significant Symbolic Distance Effects (SDEs) were observed in those decades which contained the standards numbers. In other decades, however, reaction times (RTs) were constant regardless…
