  • Perceptual characteristics of electrocutaneous pain estimated by the 30-word list and visual analog scale

AIKO SATOW, KATSUYA NAKATANI et al.•ARTICLE•Japanese Psychological Research•1990

In Experiment I a list of 30 words for assessing various kinds of pain was compiled, and 110 college students were asked to estimate each of the 30 words by point scales for seven perceptual characteristics of pain, i. e., duration, interval, movement, depth, area, volume, and intensity. Results were illustrated in heptagon profiles and ranked by their intolerability. In Experiment II, the perceptual characteristics of pains produced by two sets …

  • Analysis of perceptual characteristics of pain describing in words caused by occupational cervicobrachial disorder and similar disease

AIKO SATOW, KATSUYA NAKATANI et al.•ARTICLE•Japanese Psychological Research•1988

In Research I, the sixteen words were supported as the pain descriptors by non-medical and medical subjects who have experienced these pains. Five perceptual characteristics (duration, interval, depth, area and intensity) of the pains described by the sixteen words were estimated by five-point scales and expressed in pentagon-profiles. Pains which were long duration and repeated frequently were deep and strong. Short and infrequent pains were sha…

  • Effects of light stimulus upon simple reaction time and EP latency to the click presented with different SOA

SHUNJI MIYAKE, SHUNJI TANIGUCHI et al.•ARTICLE•Japanese Psychological Research•1986

Click and light were presented in pairs with varying stimulus onset asynchronies (SOAs) and the subjects were asked to respond to the click onset. SRTs and EPs were obtained for two levels of click intensity and were plotted as a function of SOAs. As the related EP component, Nc, or the negative peak immediately following the click onset, was taken and the Nc recorded from Cz was analyzed. Although the larger Nc amplitudes occurred with shorter S…
