Risk‐Taking by Young People in Late Adolescence Increases When They Perceive the Possibility of Their Peer “Observing Someday”
This experimental study on risk‐taking by young people in their late adolescence was carried out from the perspective of peer effect. A gambling task was administered to 42 young people under the following experiment conditions: with or without the possibility that the experiment results would be disclosed at some time to their peers and information about their peers being more or less risk‐oriented. The results showed that when it was suggested …
Predicting Driver's Intention Based on Own Vulnerability
When road users predict the future movement of an approaching vehicle at an intersection, they need to consider not only the physical environment but also the predicted behavioral intention of the approaching driver. In the present experiments, we asked participants to imagine how a vehicle would approach in a natural traffic environment. In E xperiment 1, participants estimated the time‐to‐contact with an approaching vehicle as longer when they …
Tapping task as an index of mental workload in a time sharing task 1
The sensitivity of tapping task to mental workload was investigated. Thirteen subjects were asked to produce 3 s intervals continuously while performing a time sharing task. The time sharing task was designed to manipulate a demand to allocate an attentional resource to one target and a demand to switch the target to which an attentional resource was mainly allocated. Results showed that produced intervals became shorter and more variable as the …
Psycho‐physiological analysis of mental workload at an elevated work place
The purpose of the present study was to make a psycho‐physiological analysis in order to study the degree of mental workload at an elevated place. Two experiments were carried out on 10 scaffolding workers and 10 office workers (seven in Experiment 2), who were made to walk along the footing boards of a temporary scaffold. In Experiment 1, the psycho‐physiological responses of the subjects were measured. In experiment 2, the subjects’ spare capac…
