  • Apocalyptic continuity

    Open Access•David Ray Johnson•ARTICLE•Journal of Pentecostal and…•2026

This article proposes a reorientation of Pentecostal eschatology toward the bodily resurrection of the dead, arguing that this hope, grounded in the Johannine literature, affirms the goodness of creation and generates an ethic of works for all material creation. While Pentecostal spirituality has been historically defined by eschatology, the bodily resurrection has received limited attention. Through a literary-thematic analysis of some New Testa…

  • The Artistic Character of the Spirit in the Beatus Tradition

David Ray Johnson•ARTICLE•Journal of the Bible and its…•2023

This article examines the visual interpretations of the Spirit in the Beatus illuminated manuscripts. This study will follow methods emerging in the discipline of visual criticism where visual art of biblical texts function like commentaries by offering visual interpretations. This study will investigate the visual interpretations of “John being in the Spirit” (Rev 1:10; 4:2; 17:3; 21:10) and the seven Spirits who are identified as the seven torc…

  • The Image of the Beast as a Parody of the Two Witnesses

    Open Access•David Ray Johnson•ARTICLE•New Testament Studies•2022

This article will examine the parodic characterisation of the image of the beast (Rev 13.15) who mimics the two witnesses (11.3–12) from a literary perspective. There is evidence of this mimicry based on the appearance of the textual markers, εἰκών and πνεῦμα. This study will examine parody in relation to other parodic characterisations that appear in the Apocalypse

  • Examining the Role of Gender in Educational Policy Formation

David Ray Johnson, Liang Zhang•ARTICLE•Harvard Educational Review•2020

The persistent problem of sexual assault on college campuses is receiving attention in both the public sphere and state legislatures. Although a considerable body of research examines various aspects of campus sexual assault, such as rates and reporting, scholars have not examined how state characteristics and interstate dynamics influence the policy process related to campus sexual assault. This gap is compounded by an underemphasis on gender in…

  • The Effect of Inflation Targets on the Level of Expected Inflation in Five Countries

David Johnson, David Ray Johnson•ARTICLE•The Review of Economics and…•2003

Did inflation targets reduce the level of expected inflation in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Sweden, and the United Kingdom? In this note, predictions of forecasts by professional forecasters are constructed for five consecutive 12-month periods after the announcement of targets. These predictions use a variety of information variables known to forecasters at the time they make their forecasts. The results show that, after the announcement of …

  • How Has Inflation Changed in Canada? A Comparison of 1989-2001 to 1964-1988

David Ray Johnson, Sebastian Gerlich•ARTICLE•Canadian Public Policy•2002•References: 5

Has the inflation process fundamentally changed in Canada in the last decade? We compare the dynamics of inflation from 1964 through 1988 to the dynamics of inflation from 1989 to 2001. Although the average rate of inflation fell and inflation has become less variable since 1988, we conclude that the dynamics of inflation have not changed substantially. A negative output gap reduces inflation and the adjustment of expected inflation to lagged act…
