  • Heideggers Erbe

    Lukas Bormann•EDITOR•BOOK•Heideggers Erbe•2025

    Open Access•Lukas Bormann•ARTICLE•New Testament Studies•2023

In Luke-Acts, the city of Jerusalem is mentioned very often. The city is considered the site of the temple and forms the centre of the narrative spatial configuration of Luke-Acts. Narrative analysis and the evaluation of the lexically marked language (‘terminology of salvation’) show that for the author of Luke-Acts, the city and its inhabitants, who are mainly portrayed as hostile opponents of Jesus and Paul, have no future within the narrative…

  • Auf dem Weg zu einer Biographie Gerhard Kittels (1888–1948)

George Harinck, Arie Zwiep et al.•EDITOR•BOOK•Auf dem Weg zu einer Biographie…•2022

Gerhard Kittel (1888-1948), editor of the Theological Dictionary of the New Testament (TDNT), defended what he called Christian anti-Semitism. In this volume, leading international scholars provide a deeper insight into his world of thought and his networks. The volume includes the letters of Kittel to his Amsterdam colleague F.W. • Auf Dem Weg Zu Einer Biographie Gerhard Kittels (1888-1948)

A W Zwiep, Lukas Bormann•EDITOR•BOOK•Auf Dem Weg Zu Einer Biographie…•2022

The today highly controversial Theological Dictionary of the New Testament (TDNT) is one of German New Testament scholarship's most important twentieth century achievements. By tapping into previously unknown sources from several archives, this article demonstrates that the Marburg exegete Rudolf Bultmann (1884-1976) played a key role in the TDNT's planning and implementation from the outset. The first editor, Gerhard Kittel (1888-1948), delibera…

  • Free from German ‚Schulmeinungen‘ and Other One-Sidedness“

Open Access•Lukas Bormann, Hannah Kreß et al.•ARTICLE•New Testament Studies•2020

In 1954 the first issue of New Testament Studies ( NTS ) was released under the auspices of the Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas (SNTS), which was founded on 16 September 1938 in Birmingham. The journal aimed to interlink (European) NT scholarship and to ensure its quality and standards by the society's members. Why did it take so long to release the journal, even though the Dutch NT scholar Johannes de Zwaan (1883–1957), who initially came up …

  • Abraham's Family

    Jacques T A G M van Ruiten, Lotta Valve et al.•EDITOR•BOOK•Abraham's Family•2018

This volume presents a scholarly journey through the centuries on what many religious and ethnic groups have understood as Abrahams Family. Abrahams family is brought in as a network of meaning to express opposition, antithesis or common ground within and between different religious movements.

  • Abraham's Family

    Lukas Bormann•EDITOR•BOOK•Abraham's Family•2018

Abraham, whom the apostle Paul calls the »father of us all« (Rom 4:16), was a central figure in Judaism from the outset and came to be important in Christianity and Islam. The Abraham tradition is an issue of narrative and counter-narrative, memory and counter-memory. Moreover, Abraham's family is brought in as a network of meaning to express opposition, antithesis or common ground within and between different religious movements. The contributio…

The fact that many of the initial German members of the Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas were also supporters of the NS regime and among the authors of scholarly antisemitism (G. Kittel, K. G. Kuhn, W. Grundmann) is one that requires proper examination. This paper uses relevant archival material, such as previously unexplored documents from the Reich Ministry of Education (Reichserziehungsministerium), to explain this perceived link, demonstrat…

  • Jüdische oder römische Perspektive? Neue Studien zum römisch dominierten Judäa – Ein kritischer Literaturbericht

    Lukas Bormann•ARTICLE•Zeitschrift für Religions- und…•2009

This article reports on the most important results of recent studies published in German that deal with Roman-dominated Judea/Palestine and contextualizes them within international research. Publications by Monika Bernett, Werner Eck, Linda-Marie Günther, Achim Lichtenberger and Julia Wilker offer an equally intense examination of the sources, but significantly differ in their perspectives. The question behind the examination asks whether this re…
