  • Luke's Doublets and the Synoptic Problem

    Open Access•Wolfgang Grünstäudl•ARTICLE•New Testament Studies•2022

The Synoptic Gospels contain a significant number of so-called doublets, i.e. sayings or narratives which appear twice in one and the same Gospel. Since the nineteenth century these doublets have functioned as a classical argument in favour of the existence of Q. Focusing on treatments of Luke's doublets within the contemporary rivalry between the Farrer hypothesis and the two-document hypothesis, the present article contributes to a not-Q-biased…

  • Die Datierung neutestamentlicher Pseudepigraphen

KARL MATTHIAS SCHMIDT, Wolfgang Grünstäudl et al.•EDITOR•BOOK•Die Datierung neutestamentlicher…•2021

Determining the exact date of ancient writings is often a daunting task. And even more so if they were written under someone elses name. The contributions presented here focus on these pseudepigraphal letters which became part of the New Testament, and explore new paths to identify their specific dates of origin.

  • Die Datierung Neutestamentlicher Pseudepigraphen

Wolfgang Grünstäudl, Karl Schmidt•EDITOR•BOOK•Die Datierung Neutestamentlicher…•2021

The contributions in this volume cover a wide range of topics such as the canonical significance of the epistle, its intertextual and tradition-historical links, its contribution to the doctrine of inspiration, the New Perspective on Second Peter and even the presence of Second Peter in early modern translations of the New Testament into Hebrew.

  • Perceiving the other in ancient Judaism and early Christianity

Michal Bar-Asher Siegal, Wolfgang Grünstäudl et al.•EDITOR•BOOK•Perceiving the other in ancient…•2017

The present volume reexamines both ancient Christian and Jewish portrayals of outsiders. In what ways, both positive and negative, do ancient writers interact with and relate to those outside of their ethnicity or religious tradition? This volume devotes itself to the methodological questions surrounding the use of diverse ancient sources for the construction of the other. The goal is to shed new light on ancient interactions between different re…

  • Was lange währt …

    Wolfgang Grünstäudl•ARTICLE•Early Christianity•2016

The first witness to the existence of a group of seven so-called Catholic Epistles is Eusebius of Caesarea at the beginning of the fourth century. Taking into account intertextual relationships as well as data from reception history and the study of early Christian manuscripts, the essay describes possible motifs behind the development and canonization of this collection, which has been labeled »an odd mixture« (J.K. Elliott).

  • Petrus Alexandrinus

    Wolfgang Grünstäudl•BOOK•Petrus Alexandrinus•2014

At the beginning of the 20th century, F.H. Chase called for a study that would have for its primary object the examination in detail of the relation [...] of 2 Peter to early Christian literature, and especially to the pseudepigraphical and apocryphal documents as a precondition for identifying the historical context of 2 Peter. Acting on this suggestion, Wolfgang Grünstäudl analyzes the relationship of 2 Peter to other Petrine pseudepigrapha and…

  • Epilog, Ouvertüre oder Intermezzo? Zur ursprünglichen Funktion von 2 Clem 19,1-20,4

    Wolfgang Grünstäudl•ARTICLE•Early Christianity•2013

2 Clem 19.1-20.4, probably a later addition to 2 Clem 1-18.2; 20.5, bears striking intertextual links to 1 Clem. This points to the original function of this passage: It served as some sort of bridge-text between the public reading of 2 Clem 1-18.2; 20.5 and 1 Clem. Because of this, 2 Clem 19.1-20.4 witnesses an early combination of two formerly independent texts, i.e.1 Clem and 2 Clem.

  • Petrus Alexandrinus
